Hi guys,
I just bought a 99 GS-T onvertible. The car has a mechanical boost controller (turbo XS), Apex-I exhaust, K&N filter....

I think I need to get a boost gauge. What is a safe amount of boost to run with this setup?

How do I adjust the boost controller?

Thanks in advance.. :thumb:

Yes!! get a boost gauge pronto...Is the turbo a stock T-25? stock fuel pump I assume? Is the fuel pump rewired? We need a little more information to help you out, otherwise I would say keep the boost fairly low like 10 psi without knowing any other mods/condition of the car.

Most MBC (manual boost controllers) you loosen a jam nut and turn out a screw counter clockwise to lower boost and turn clockwise to raise boost (which I dont reccomend without a boost gauge)

Well even though you have bolt-ons...in terms of 'boost modifications' you're car is pretty much stock.

What you can do for now while you decide what boost gauge to get borrow one from a friend and hook it up just to see what the boost is currently set at.

Usually you want to run no more than a steady 16 psi with a stock fuel setup to allow room for small spikes up to 18 psi.

You do not want you're car to hit fuel cut! For consistency, gas mileage, and decent improvement I would recommend driving it at 12psi daily.

Now that you have you're boost dialed in go shopping for a good boost gauge it's going to be replacing that stock one that is good for nothing. The gauge will be in you're car for a long time and also in case you plan on upgrading you're fuel system and running more boost you're going to want to get a boost gauge with at least 25psi on the positive pressure side. Don't skimp on the gauge get a decent one!

try runing it with 8 or 9psi when my 4g63 was stock i ran it 10psi it's relly up to your car if is runing right and try getting a good boost controllers ### i don't truse a manual one's:dsm:

+1 mbcs are actually considered more accurate, as they can't fluctuate due to an electronic malfunction. the mbc you have is dandy. good luck with the build :dsm:

for decent prices you can try maperformance.com or look for a namebrand on ebay. i like prosport but most ppl go greddy (high-end) or autometer (good-quality, cheaper)

16 psi is your limit pretty much due to your lack of fuel system mods, and going beyond that on the stock turbo isn't going to net too much anyway.

As for the boost controller, generally screwing in and putting tension on the spring increases your boost limit, and loosening the screw decreases it.

Definitely get a boost gauge, in my opinion it should be one of the first mods. I say running 15 psi is safe.

There is a lot of mixed opinions on how much boost to run. It does not look like the fuel pump was replaced. I think the car is stock minus catback, intake, and boost controller... The car seems like it is low on boost, but I don't want to adjust it till I see what its pushing.

Is autometer a good brand? What is the easiest way to install one?

Looks like 12-14psi is safe with these mods?

The engine runs great, and the car only has 60k miles on it.
