Ok, here's my basic question. Will the O2 sensor readings be effected in any way since the exhaust from the wastegate will no longer be running past it. It seems to me that the lack of exhaust flow coming by the sensor (mainly at WOT when wastegate is open) would effect the O2 readings and possibly hurt how the car runs (ok thats an extreme case, but it might make the O2 a totally uneffective tuning tool, not that its great to tune by anyway). Am I correct here? If not, what am I missing?

Is an external dump even worth it on a 14b (possible 16G..I can always flange it for an ext WG too)? This is just a summer project to cure bordem (free). I have the spare housing and all so nothing will be destroyed. Thanks for any input!

BTW I have a FMIC that will be getting on soon. My goals are low 13's-high 12's so a nicely ported O2 housing should work fine.

Think the welds will hold up? I know CI doesnt weld well, but yea, I am bored. Should I use Nickel or Inkonel if I can get ahold of any?

I would like to know how to do this also because I refuse to pay the money that is involved in switching to a external dumped 02 housing. I would rather just hogg out the 2g. When you are finished or have figured out how to weld it correctly, drop me a line or repost some pics!! :thumb:

will do. but basically as seen above, chop out the dump and weld pipe on.

I had a ported 2g o2 housing (2.36" max ported and no dump) on my big16g car. It was nice but I wanted some more top end. I found a 2.5" o2 housing with atmos dump on dsmtrader for $100 bucks. I though I would give atmos dumping a shot; it's only a $100 bucks.

It's a great piece. I get more normal exhaust passage room 2.36" v.s. the 2.5" and I get the o2 dump. I saw some nice gains; the butt o meter says there was more top end. Since then one of my other friends hacked his stock 2g o2 housing and put a dump tube on it; just what you talked about doing Tallen. So it can be done, pretty easily. You will see some benefits of it on a 14b. But bigger turbos show bigger benefits from it.

Boostn4 - You don't have to spend a lot of money to get a good o2 dump housing. Like I said I got my used off the trader. But the maker of my part, 122performance sells them new for like $160, and they are EXCELLANT parts; can't speak enough about them.

it should not effect the acuracy of the o2 sensor. I got my turboback 3in exhaust for 750$ from rx4speed.com and it came with a tubular o2 housing. The 02 was 2 1/2 at the turbo and 3in at the bottom of it. It also had an atmosphere dump. The downpipe also had a hole in it for the o2. now my sensor is on the d/p and not the o2housing w/ dump. so obviously the excess gas not flowing over the sensore doesn't matter.

Thanks for the ideas, I actually haven't checked the dsmtrader in awhile so that might be an option. When I said that I wouldn't pay the money for it, I meant I have other areas I would rather spend it in, ex: fuel trims and dsmlink. :D It is also the last component to complete my exhaust system so I am considering it more and more.

Can you post a picture of the O2 just cut without the ext pipe in the way. I have a extra 2G O2 and would like to do this too. BTW, what did you guys use to cut the O2 Housing? A Dremal??

hehe, i dont think a dremel can handle cast iron.

use an angle grinder and a die grinder to work the passage. then close up the hole btwn the WG dump and regular exhaust. then just weld the pipe on...

What i want to know is how you plan on making that pipe go on the stock O2 housing and go directly to the wastgate pasage and only let out exhaust from the wastegate?

It looks to me like that will leak all the time because it does not isolate the wastegate hole to just the tube...

It does isolate the hole, theres material and gaskets between the wastegate and exhaust passage on a dsm o2 sensor housing.

He meant that there is a possibility that the pipe could leak from the welds if not welded properly. That means welded shut on the inside also, and the seems nice and covered on the outside. There are no gaskets going in with this external dump pipe being attached..

Hey Tallen, what diameter pipe are you using??

search for open loop and closed loop operation. that will answer your question.

uhrm....its just a pipe welded to the dump....the o2 housing bolts into place as normal...lil over an inch OD pipe...nickel worked great for the welds!

remember this is the EXTREME TUNING FORUM...so....yea

if it turns out to be annoyingly loud after awhile...well, i'll slap a moped muffler on there or somethin (seen it done b4)

now i just need my turbo (hint red91tsiawd) so i can port match then install everything!

really mike...yours sounded badass, but yea i'll prolly tire of it. if so, on goes the moped/atv muffler

i thought about squeezing a crotch rocket muffler in there and having it come out the side of the bumber in front of the wheel, but i am far to lazy to attempt anything like that. im just gonna re route it when i get a slimline fan.
