Before I send these out to Delta cams for cleanup and verification I just want to know why HKS changed their cam marking process by putting on weird codes instead of the traditonal duration markings like 264,272 etc?

Anyone have this issue and can they verify these markings? Are these DSM 4g63 272's(R05,406)(R06,406):confused:

Cams say(R05,406) (R06,406) Identifying these as 272's or whatever,How is that clear to you? I don't really see it in this diagrahm?:confused:

Look at the pic below again.

The engraving is done in short hand.

Your R05 = 2202 RM005 I cam Has the cas slit in the back
Your R06 = 2202 RM006 E cam no slit in the back of the cam

The 406 could be what machine or the cam grinder ID number or even a date code

My HKS Cams have the numbers of M006 904 on the E cam and M003 704

If the last 3 digits are a date code

904 = Sept 2004
704 = July 2004
406 = April 2006

Great observations there. I can only take your word for it and this train of thought would indicate I do have 272. Not trying to dismiss anyones oservations just that this makes the pic a liitle clearer for me. Thanks to you and Jimmy!:thumb:

Just checked the R05 406 does have the slit in back for the CAS! I owe you guys beers!!! Thank you!

You can measure the base circle of the cam lobe and then the lobe lift of the same lobe.

Then subtract the base circle from the lobe lift and see if it comes out to be the lift spec on the chart.

Delta cams said that when I send them out to get them cleaned up(very tiny pitt marks) they are going to send me a cam card with all the info after they check it.

NEW QUESTION

I got my cams in and there is no markings on it at all except for an engraving that says HKS. I have no clue which is the 264 and which is the 272. Any way to measure them. What tool do we use, a digital micrometer?

Edit:
Never mind. One has a hole and one has a deep hole with a line through it. I guess I can figure it out from there.
