Does a 2g head make decent power?

This all startef today when I contacted a local dsm shop. I just asked where they had their machine work done and we started talking about different setups. O told him I was going to be running a basic 2g head with cams and springs, nothing special. The fieat thing he said was if i wantes to make power above 380hp to go with a 1g head. He basically said if it has not been ported that iys a waste of time and money.
He seems very noligable about these cars and has apparently built a lot of them over the past 13 years. Really it just got me thinking. Would I just be better off buying a 1g head and doing the same mods? I know the design of each head has its own bennefits, but I would think the head would be good for more than 380hp. Just wanted everyones oppinions on the matter. Thanks

Its just the same old debate as usual, 2g ports creating higher velocity at a better angle or 1g stock big ports. Either will do fine. A 2g head can be ported out past a 1g but personally I cant see a point in that. Just take out the casting marks, clean up the bowl area and polish it.

I have personally talked to Curt Brown and he pretty much just gasket matches his 2G heads to "clean them up" in his words. And that setup lays down massive amounts of power far beyond what 90% of any dsm owner will every make.

I have a 2g head, i make over 380whp currently with no porting. They both work, it really depends on how much you want and what other parts you have on the car.
