I was gonna pitch this and saw this stamping. It looks kinda like a stamp on my 100mm crank. It needs turned but my questions are is it eagle? And is it recommended not to turn like oem? Didn't want to scrap it if someone could put it to use.

Hey dummy ... how about some photos.

It's a myth the DSM cranks shouldn't be turned. Mine is and I run 27psi and trap 122.7Mph in the quarter mile. I just sent it out to be renitrided after turning and then micro bead polished.

I would have that cut no problem as long as it will clean up at .010 . I've been doing it for 15 years and never had an issue.

Its not a myth. The manual says not to.

Does the eagle crank have a treatment done? That's what im asking.

Damn, i better just quit working on cars huh. The reason that they recommend not cutting them is so that you will just have to buy a new crank. You can cut the crank .010 just fine. This has been debated for years on these dsm sites and the same conclusion is always reached. No need to re invent the wheel here.

The manual doesn't say anything about a Mack truck turbo, and 40psi of boost either.

The issue is most people that cut their cranks don't have it renitrided. Without the hardening process, it will fail. I would assume the same for eagle cranks as well. And having them nitrided will not hurt anything.

Your link is an optional coating that can be done. People have different opinions about cutting the crank. Thats why the guy here had it treated after cutting. My questions were... is it an eagle(by the smeared stamping) and are they treated with something special and don't recommend cutting them. Your posts were pointless. But thank you for telling everyone who you are...

You don't have to have it re nitrated if you cut it. The nitrate hardening goes at least .030 into the crankshaft. I am willing to bet that 99 percent of people on this forum that run a cut crank didn't have it done. I have yet to have one fail along with thousands of other guys.

^ What he said. I would cut a crank .010 no problem, but any deeper and I get iffy. Plenty of others do it, and are completely fine. Some, they fail, is it the cranks fault, who knows. But I would not have a problem getting it cut.
