So i have a 1g and im kinda on the college budget and I really wanna build onto the talon but the dilemma is i cant afford 2000 for a whole motor rebuild on top of parts. Its pretty stockish at this point i do however need the head rebuild due to heavy amounts of white smoke at start up with a coolant smell (i can afford this), along with stripped head bolts. But do i have to get the block rebuilt as well?

Thanks guys

White smoke could possibly be a bad turbo, do a compression check and or leak down check to verify it is in fact the head. Are the bolts that are stirpped the head to block bolts? Or somthing else.

i did do a compression test and it was 141 130 148 145. kinda all over the place. and i meant the exhaust manifold holes in the head are stripped

yeah everytime i go to take the cap off it looks bare so i put more in but then the overflow bottle always has more in it. and on startup there is a ton of white smoke and it has a strong sweet smell

I want to mildy build it but with the smoke and compression the way it is I don't wanna shove money down the drain

The compression is a bit squwed in #@ @130 but its not bad.. the loss of coolant is what you need to check

The coolant may be being lost thu #2

Run a leak down test or a coolant pressure test.

But at this point it is looking like the head will need to be popped off

Do you think i should just have it rebuilt? new springs and a valve job?

And do you think i could get away from having the block rebuilt i couldnt afoord it at the moment

Easy way to check is to pull your plugs right? If one is really clean and white then thats where you are burning coolant? Am I fright guys?
