hey everyone im having trouble getting the timing down on the car. I lined the timing marks up with the new cams that i got that were for the 4g64 and have a 1g cas in the car. That car starts but definitely seems out of time. Is there a trick to using these new cam gears? I know i cant use the stock 2g ones because they are off a tooth or something, If anyone has this setup and can take a picture of their timing please let me know. ALso if you have any knowledge about this please let me know, the car stutters and doesnt rev or feel right. It definitely is out of time, and the 1g cas was working before the engine install. IT almost has to be the timing but the engine is in perfect timing at tdc. Dowell pins pointing up and notches in cam gears pointing at each other at 3 and 9 o clock positions.

Did you ever fix this?

You know you have to check the timing by looking at both the cam gears and the crank pulley right?

If all three of the marks are lined up (4 if you are using the balance shafts) then you should be in time. There is no trick to using the 4g64 gears...unless you have them on backwards or something. I remember reading something about one side being for the 4g64 and the other was for the 4g63. Perhaps they just remarked 4g63 gears they already used. So look at the cam gear and see what it says on the part that is facing out.

I even used the 4g63 gears on mine and and just set it so the exhaust cam was a half tooth above the intake cam and it seems like it runs fine to me. I even used a 4g63 belt and ground off part of the tensioner to accomodate it. LOL. That was a fun first timing belt job indeed.

never fixed this turns out the cams were off. I am getting some adjustable cam gears today and taking it in to english racing tomorrow to have them degreed. Should be running by tomorrow afternoon
