Help w/Euro Export Valve Spring Compressor

I just bought this tool:

Euro Export, Inc.

The part came in like two days and I was impressed with the quality of the piece. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this. Such as:
  1. How much did you have to turn the large bolt before the keepers were ready to fall out?
  2. Should I remove the [I don't know what they're called; cam journal bolt surrounds? Female dowel openings?] before I attach the tool onto the cylinder head?
  3. Did you use the optional adapter plate that says its for Evo's, but seems to prevent any scratching of the retainer?

I know these are poorly worded questions, but I'm hoping someone will know.

Figured it out, so I just wanted to reply back to the thread in case people are searching for info on this product.

It works great, you just have to compress, back out, and compress until the keepers are willing to slide out.

Also, think about where your "bolting" the tool so you can remove up to three springs while its fixed to one spot.

I wish I had pictures, but basically all you need is a little elbow grease and this tool works great.

Very little elbow grease if any. I also bought this tool and its very easy to use. They never mentioned any evo adaptor. The piece I have fits on the retainer perfect. I just put a little bit of assembly lube on the retainer.

Tip: when putting the keepers back in, use assembly lube. It helps hold the keeper in place while you draw the spring back.

Thanks for the tip on re-assembly.

Yeah, I think that was my problem. In my case the head had been sitting for a couple weeks, so the valvetrain was relatively dry which I think caused the keepers to bind up. The only thing I had lying around was WD-40 which didn't do anything in that regard.

Oh, and the adapter came with it. It was just like another plate/ring that you could put on top of the retainer on an EVO - something like the springs are smaller or something.

All in all, great product that will stay in my garage as long as I own a DSM or EVO.
