Okay so I buy a Cometic HG and ARP head studs while the motor is out. I installed the HG and studs and torqued everything the way its supposed to be and used the ARP assembly lube. After I get everything back together I start the car and let it run for a few minutes while I check around for leaks.

Well for some reason the HG is only leaking coolant out of the front of the gasket behind where the turbo is. I pull everything back apart and check to make sure everything is right and the gasket is on correctly but it looks like there is a coolant passage that gets covered by the gasket and there is no hole on the gasket to let it through?

So I'm confused if anyone has ever drilled a hole in the gasket to make it work? Or is that passage supposed to be covered? Any help would be awesome.

Positive. It is on correct it can only really go on one way because the other way the holes are in the wrong places. Its very odd everything lines up except for that one hole.

Ah. I asked because once a while back I had a hg flipped on and accord and it leaked a bit of coolant. Pulled the head, flipped the gasket and everything was great.

yeah its really bothering me because that gasket is brand new and everything was torqued correctly but it still leak a little coolant so im like wth LOL. I might try cleaning it and drying it off and spraying some permatex spray on it but i dont wanna do that put it all back together and it still leak LOL.

I was under the impression that you must re-surface the head AND block when going from a stock HG to an MLS HG. :hmm:

The bigger problem is that you need to get the Block resurfaced as well to run an MLS gasket and that's not as easy to just yank out of the car and run to a machine shop.

IMO, get an OEM composite gasket and run the ARPs. It should hold 25-30 psi.

Damn. I just say the date of your post. Hopefully you got it sorted out already.

I used a scotch brite pad on the block with some gasket cleaner and it worked out fine with my MLS!! I have done that on a few cars with great success. However my head was machined properly for a MLS gasket! Looks like a mirror or like polished aluminum. Just like BogusSVO's video
