Hi!

My friends '96 GS broke her timingbelt and bent some valves. It's a 4G63 engine in it, from the numbers on the block. All my searches about NT Eclipses turn out with 420A engine codes online, so I got to ask here.

I got a '98 Gs-t and got some extra parts laying around.

What will fit from my '98Gs-t to the '96 GS?
--------------------------------

Head with good valves. If it fits, can she use her old lifters and rocker arms on that head?

Will her cam's fit in it?

New valve seals?

Composite headgasket for 4G63. Will fit?

New 1G waterpump for 6bolt. Ordered by mistake, can it fit her GS?

--------------------------------

Can she order 2G DSM valvetrain and timingbelt components from a online shop? Timingbelt, pulleys, balancer belt, valves, valve guides, valve seals, retainers waterpump and so on. Basically what will fit and not.

Anyone who knows? My head is all into Gs-t, so I don't know this.

Hoping for quick replies.

Thanks in advance,

John

All 4g63s in 2gs were TURBOED. Unless somebody swapped a NT 4g63 into her 2g or maybe even pulled off the turbo off hers and turned it into a NT, who the heck would do that? Maybe youre thinking 4g64?

Numbers on the block? If it's a GS, the odds of someone having swapped a 4g in there are very slim. The odds of them swapping a non-turbo 4g in there are 0.

The 420a sits on the passenger side, the 4g63 sits on the drivers side. If it's not sitting on the drivers side, none of the parts will interchange, no matter what the numbers on the block says.

If it is by chance a 4g, and it is a 7 bolt, all the parts should exchange.

This is a GS. I pointed her to the spot where the stamps are, by the oilpin, and she told me the numbers are 4G63. IDK if there is a EURO version of the GS, w/4G63?

Hmm.. Since I'm not there I'll make her capture a picture and send it to me.. :)

I know that some Galant's here come with SOHC 4G63 engines, but she got DOHC... Strange stuff.. :hmm:

This is correct for the US, but in Europe the 2G N/A's got 4g63's as well, just without turbos. If you look at the OP, he is from Europe :thumb:

To answer your question, the timing belt for a 2G Turbo will fit on a 2G N/A in Europe with the 4g63.

Correct! Forgot to add that, sorry.

Will valves, guides, seals fit? And 2G waterpump? OEM parts cost ALOT at the dealer here, and haven't found a online store selling GS parts, so if she can get 4G63t parts from like extremepsi or similar, it's a big save!

And, will they fit and will she gain anything good by getting my old OEM Gs-t cam's? US '98Gs-t. Still NT in her car. She thinks her car is lazy as a donkey.

:)

I do not have the catalog required at my disposal to verify if the head hardware is the same or not. If I was a betting man, I'd guess the valves, guides and seals would be the same as the turbocharged head... I'd imagine the cam would be the only thing different. You need to verify that with someone at a local Mitsubishi dealer, however. Definitely call and figure the part numbers out - that VAT is killer there! I know on the 6bolt N/A it is common for them to stick turbo cams on their cars. I do not know if that would hold true with the 7bolt N/A variety, however. You could always order a set and try them out, then swap them back if you don't like it.

Okay. :) I can bring her my old 7bolt head with good valves, and see if lifters, rockers etc. fit from her head.

I got the OEM cam's from my car, but IDK if she will gain anything, or loose power using them.
