im thinking of picking up a 6bolt from a yard up in PA need it taken to get machine work done... anyone can recommend a good machine shop closest to NYC.... my 7bolt is leaking massive oil... approx. 5 quarts a week.... just replaced the front casing.. smoking like a chimney a thick white smoke from the exhaust and by the pullies...have no idea where its coming from... please pm me if anyone in the tristate knows a mechanic that specializes on DSM'S please i need to get it help before i spend a massive amount of money building a 6bolt

i think both are pretty blown... the motor has about 170k ... i was thinking about swapping in the 6bolt short block and keeping the 2g head... what do you think? oh and getting either a MHI EVO3 turbo or 50 trim....

I think you may have more than one issue here.

First of all if the car is smoking that bad its going to be a bad turbo seal, or blown rings. If its the rings you will feel a loss in power. You can also do a compression test to verify the condition of the rings.

Second to be losing that much oil you probably also have what we call a class II leak. This is a leak that has a constant drip, you should be able to see it while the car is at idle.

Finally if your compression test yields bad rings, I concur on the 6 bolt swap. Best of luck and keep us updated.

i def believe the rings are bad because i feel a significant loss in power at times... when those times occur i always see white smoke coming from my exhaust... my oil pressure flucuates throughout the day and this whole mess is beginning to get on my last nerves... im going to eventually swap out to the 6bolt by the winter..

well, when my car was leaking that much fluid, it wasnt the oil pump housing, its actually the front main seal but to fix it , you have to pull the timing belt off
