6 bolt block 7 bolt head, waterpipe issues

It says to use the 2g water pipe but it seems to be 1/4 to a 1/2 inch to long. When I put it into the water pump, the thermostat housing is still about 1/2 in away from the head and it wont slide into the water pump any more.

I have a 2G head on a 6-bolt block in my Galant and you want to use a 1G water pipe and 1G thermostat housing. Well I used a Galant thermostat housing but you know what I mean.
