I'm replacing my timing belt. Ive read VFAQ and the FAQ on here.

I finsihed the job, but just want to double check.

I was able to tighten my tensioner pulley center bolt and torque it to the point where the timing belt is tight and the pin moves freely in and out of the tensioner. I pulled the pin out. Rotated crankshaft SIX complete turns clockwise. Checked all the timing marks and they all lined up. Waited 15mins and I'm still able to move the pin freely in and out of the tensioner. Now I tried using the two drill bits to check the gap distance between the tensioner arm and auto tensioner body, but I can't get the smaller of the two in there... Did I do something wrong?

No, you didn't do anything wrong. Most people will be "OK" with just having the tension loosen the grenade pin, but the more anal will tension it with the gap specs. That being said, you choose with how safe you feel with the belt tension. I've ran/timed motors both ways and they seem to be ok. Personally, I would gap my autotensioner on my own motor.
