Piston quality

Heres the deal with ebay pistons. What these companies do is grab a set of OEM pistons and send them out to a factory in china or somewhere. There they make an exact mold of the piston and reproduce the piston. The problem is that a mold isnt 100% exactly what the piston is.

For that reason the ebay brand and all non perfomance pistons will be slightly weaker and less durable than the OEM pistons.

For most people this isnt a problem, think about it the OEM pistons have been taken up to 500 whp which is 600+ hp on those pistons without a serious malfunction. If you are gonna be running a 500 hp drag car dont get these pistons, but if you are running a 16g 300whp car you should be just fine with these.

The real question is do you really want to chance your motor on crappy pistons? I mean for an additional 120$ you can get oem pistons from slowboy. These you know will take the abuse and handle any horsepower you will be running. Plus if these crap out on ya you are gonna score the cylinder walls which will cause the block to have to be honed $100+ new pistons $85+ and whatever else breaks, possibly valves etc etc.

My opinion dont cheap out on pistons.

Very good post you explained why you think these pistons might be weaker and what your opinion is. Much better than most ebay piston replies. :thumb:

I have run these exact pistons in my DD for over 10,000 miles (16 months) and they are perfect, the rings still seal great also. If you want to run low horsepower buy them, in my experience I would trust these pistons to 300whp. I also bought these pistons for my 14b powered N/T and they have lasted half a year of low mileage so far.

just my 2cents on slowboy pistons.(the so called oem pistons from slowboy are made by nippion) i found this out because i ordered a set thinking they were going to be the real deal with the :dsm: stamp. but was pretty much let down. there web sight is very mis-leading. that is why they do not get my $ any more.it also took about 3 weeks before i got my cash back into mt account. but anyway i pretty much desided to go all forged stuff that way i'll never have to worry about pushing the car to hard. (motor wise atleast) now if i could only get rid of the dang tranny problems i'll be good.:talon:

Mitsubishi Motors goes to Nippon factories to get their pistons when they build their cars. Mitsubishi Motors, and Diamond Star Motors back in the day, didn't have a "piston building plant". Chances are the pistons you buy from the dealer come from Nippon in bulk and Mitsubishi packages it with their badge. Nippon will stamp what ever you want on their pistons. And Mitsu wants their triple-diamond on it, of course.

Slowboy goes to Nippon directly to save you money. Hopefully you sold them for what you paid. They are the real deal, just brand new; not used, like to which so many resort for the sake of having a "Mitsubishi" part.

i personally got a set of these back in december! got to my house and decided they looked really cheaply built!!! the rings that come with them arent the best! i suggest saving your money and buying a good set of pistons!

thanks i try not to give bad information!

I actually didnt know that about the slowboy pistons!! thats really good information and i appreciate it.

I agree with the person i quoted for most people the above pistons are great for low power, but many people on this site dont have low horsepower goals.

Apparently no one read my post. . .

These are NPR pistons. These pistons are good for whatever an original piston can handle, because they are oem pistons that mitsubishi motors buys but without the triple-diamond stamp. NPR is a competent JAPANESE based corporation, of which manufactures PRODUCTION pistons and engine components for the JDM automotive manufacturers. He!!, Toyota Motor Corporation is a MAJOR shareholder and so is Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking Corporation, "the longest arm" in THE LARGEST ENTITY IN THE MITSUBISHI GROUP (triple diamond). . .

Please, research your vendor before you recommend for or against: NPR Company Overview. Look at their six first listed main customers in their buisiness outline. A hint: they arn't you and me. 1990 versions of these pitsons are in YOUR car and the OP's car right now. Iluvmy4g63 recieved exactly the parts of which he asked

. These are the same pistons your dealer would sell you. Original 2g pistons are good for more power than a 6-bolt rod can handle. These are those same pistons.

Invincible MHI turbos likely have NPR components in them, since MHI is one of their main customers as well.

Keep the vendor reviews in the vendor reviews section.
