I recently picked up this car and was told the motor was built. Mods are in my profile. I can verify that the head is built. I wasnt sure about the block,so I did a compression test today. 174-174-174-176 I thought with 9.0:1 pistons it should be higher than that. There is a multilayer head gasket(unsure what brand) but how much will it lower compression. Any input?

I think around 192? ### thats what the Standard Compression for a 2.0 N/T 9.0:1.

My freshly built motor with 9.0:1 is at ~180 now....

Either way, I think you're fine in terms of compression. Nothing to worry about.

Maybe by "built motor" he meant big rods and 2g pistons on my old motor thats around where i was with 8.5:1 comp..... Pull a spark plug shine a flashlight down there and take a look :thumb:

EDIT: BTW I see you live pretty close to me . do you know of any other dsmers in the area? as far as i knew I was about the only one other than a couple evo's and a bunch of nt's

Wancsta- He definitely said eagle rods and wiseco 9.0:1 pistons. I have no reason to doubt him as the head is built like he said. I checked google maps and you are about 2 1/2 hours away.

yea I guess there's two Hanover's If you check 18706 you'll see the one i'm talking about. ne ways did you look down in there?

I just did a comp test last night on my fiance's car with 2g 8.5:1 pistons. 196-200-200-196. I thought that 9.0:1 would be up around 210ish. Also keep in mind that every gauge is a little different, perhaps you should try another tester?
Wow, TJ, that seems really high. A stock 2G engine doesn't even test that high. How many miles does Brandy have on her engine since the rebuild? Has her block and head been resurfaced several times already?

I did a compression test on my 9.0:1 engine after my 20 mile motoman break-in, and I got 180 across the board. I expect this number to increase slightly within the next 1500 miles though.

8.5:1 pistons and the head was decked. Not sure if it was done before me but I would assume so. The timing marks lined up perfect though, which I thought was weird for a decked head. Her car has ~1600 miles on it now and I did the test wed night. Like I said though, some gauges might be higher than others. I am just happy that the numbers are all so close and that the car has so much damn off boost power :) That 2g head and 2g piston combo is really fun :thumb:
