Okay got my 6bolt block back from the local machine shop, had it hot tanked, bored and new core plugs installed. Now i found out that when using arp main studs i should get the block line honed for sure. :nono: Also i did not get the block sufaced but it looks ok (a little ghosting of the original gasket). Should i take it back to get this work done aswell or should i just mic the mains to check for an out of round condition. I'll also try to post a picture of the head gasket surface. If i take it back it will also need retanked again aswell???

Didn't like that picture all that much heres another.

Also i'm sending my main, and rod bearings back to get .10" oversize ones instead, but say i get it line bored will it take .20" bearings instead as my crank was ground .10"??

Use a fealer gauge and a plain(SP?) to measure your deck, you want under .03" everywhere. You run the plain across the deck diagonally each way, straight across(hotdog way) on the outside ends then in the middle and run the fealer gauge through about 5 spots per placement of the plain

Do not use a mic to measure your mains for out of round, use a bore gauge. You MUST get a line bore done either way.

When buying oversized bearings it is making then thicker towards the crank(smaller inside diameter). The outside diameter(main caps/block) will be the same no matter what bearing you get.

Watch out for clevites they have changed their line and no longer sell a nice tri-metal bearing. I sent mine back and got ACL's.

PM me if you need anything else.

HAHA 30 thou... I think you mean .003" max :thumb:

Yes a mic is used to measure the journals, you need a dial bore indicator, and mic to measure the bores.

Talk to the machinist first, and see what over size he thinks. Once you buy the correct oversized bearings that he suggests give them to him, and he will take care of the rest.

Also you probably want to deck the head, and block surface to assure that you have a perfectly flat surface to work with.

Well had the line bore miced yesterday everythings in spec except the middled cap is a just borderline out of round. So time to dump even more money into this car :beatentodeath:
