So, did a compression test today, all i had time today before work. High 150's or low 160's. This seems very high for a motor with 180,000 on the odo. Any comments on this. The motor was cold dont know if this makes a difference. Tomorrow im performing a leak down as well as clean the motor with a can of seafoam. Hear that will clean the cylinders really good. My stepfathers friend said that we will see what the compression is after the seafoam to see if that has some changes, the carbon is helping the compression, LOL. What else do you think could make this so high after so long? Never rebuilt, never opened up( head taken off). Just seems a little odd thats all. Thanks for any input, in advance

welcome to the strongest/best 4 banger in the world :thumb:

With all those miles there more then likely is a lot of carbon build up on the piston heads causing the compression to be so high, but honestly why are you bothering? your compression is basically perfect. Unless there is a problem i don't see why you would bother with the leak down test.

Thanks man. Ive known for years now, that this car is amazing. If i could take the 4g63 6 bolt to every car i ever own, i might have to rebuild it twice over the millions i will drive cars. Like i said, we will see what the seafoam does with cleaning it up, and then try it. After, its something still that high, i would SHIT A F**** BRICK. Literally right on my sidewalk. Tomorrow will def. be an interesting day to say the least. I might even get to see boost in over a month. :thumb: :thumb:

but still, why are you doing this at all? Those numbers are fine. Is there something wrong that would make you think you need to do this?

Im sorry for missing that the fist time, the car ran horribly, it barely started up, i have another post in the tuning section i think, if you wanna see the symptoms. I just want to clean the motor up, just installing a brand spanking new turbo with new everything pretty much. I ve heard really good things about the seafoam, and i want to get my car running well first, then finish my mods that i want. I will be rebiulding a head for the engine here shortly, and i want to make completely sure that the motor is still in good shape, before i reuild it, and dump another 2g's into it. But, like you said, that motor is in good shape, or so it seems. Thanks for your input.

BTW. i fixed the cars starting problem. Cheap plugs- little spark Old fuel filter- little fuel. Horrible running motor

Hi,

I would think it would be a good idea to seafoam it and then retest it. Even if the carbon is helping you, you still dont want all that carbon sitting in there and causing hot spots in the combustion chamber. I'm sure as you guys know this could possibly cause detonation and possibly pre-ignition.

Mine has 210,000 on it and i have not done anything to it. Every time i do a comp test i run around 150 on each cylinder so i never worried about the carbon in the motor.
