I am in the process of rebuilding my 1g 6 bolt. I put the timint belt on with the crank, mark timed and the oil pump timed...and the cams where timed with the dowl pins up. I rotated the engine several times(dunno exact #) But now I cannot get all the timing marks to line up(crank, cams, oil pump.) Only the crank and oil pump will line up, and either the intake cam or the exhaust cam will line back up with the dowl pin at the top. I know that the oil pump rotates at like 2/3 of the crank speed...Any ideas?

Focus on lining up the crank and cams then check the oil pump, it can take up to 6 crank rotations for the oil pump to line up. Are your balance shafts removed?
 
Yes, my BS are removed...I think I will just remove the timing belt and try again tomorrow. It seems as if one of my cams is always 180 degrees off....even though I timed them with the dowl pins up...O well, Guess I will just have to try the whole thing over again tomorrow.

If the BS were properly removed, you don't need to line up the oil pump mark, just focus on the crank/cams.
 
I used a BS removal kit from Jackson Auto, and installed it per directions on the Vfaq...should be right I assume. But why does the oil pump NOT have to be timed now since the BS have been removed? I thought that is should always be timed. Could always be wrong though.

The timing mark on the oil pump is only for properly indexing the balance shaft to cancel out vibrations. The oil pump gear only has to be timed if there is a balance shaft connected to it. If you used a stubby shaft it isn't necessary.
