Ok guys,

I would like to know if anyone has made a 2g headlight into a ram air, yet FUNCTIONAL headlight (you loose the high beam)?

I would like to do this to my car as I live in Florida and it gets HOT over here...

I am talking about something like this but slightly cleaner:

I fear your ####ing harpoon like side exhaust! Imo its illegal here in PA so if i went with that id go balls out 4" incher with a non harpoon tip. Sorry i cant get over that.

I do like the intake though, id of gone with the same plastic like material as the light though and just blacked it out.

Stuck out when I first welded it together.

Here is Tim Zimmers. Except if you want a functional headlight just cut out the high beam.

Instead of cutting your headlight, just put a CF hood scoop on it, or reverse it to let the air out.

Project 2g, How hard was it to make? That is EXACTLY what I want :)

Can you make a quick run down of the tools and materials needed? If you lived around here, I'd pay you to make me one.

Thanks for the replies guys!

PS: What size is your opening?

Why couldnt you make a ram air duct from the spot where the side mount intercooler used to be? That way you wouldnt sacrifice a headlight.

Been there done that, I want the air coming in directly through the headlight :)

T, I could try to make you one like that before I come to orlando if you wanted me to! I did it for the awd out of a spare headlight I bought.

It's actually not hard at all man. You just need a dremmel to do it and some 2-part epoxy and a piece of pvc tube. I 2" pvc pipe and then cut a hole through the headlight the exact same width as the pvc. Then I just painted the pipe black, set it at the angle I wanted it and used the epoxy to hold it in place. The good thing about the epoxy is that you can smooth it out really nicely with your finger to make it nice and clean looking. I think it's actually easier to start from the backside of the headlight and work towards the face of it. But it's up to you.

I've also seen some guys use fiber glass to hold the tube in place but I think that'd get a little messy and the epoxy I use sets in 5 minutes and cures fully in an hour.

then you could put something like this over the end of the pvc to clean it up even more.

sorry to double post but I know you could also do this, take apart your headlight housing and just use the inner black piece and fiberglass it to make a huge scoop. But then you'd be sacrificing more than just a highbeam of course...

I don't know if you guys know this or not but for "ram air" to actually work you have to be going unbelievably fast or have a car capable of utilizing the "ram air" effect. The gains you will receive, if any, from doing this mod will be so inessential that it will render almost useless to have it as a mod. "Ram air" doesn't just work at any speed...

If you're not using a mas just turn your intake pipe upside down and voila, cai.

I think he's doing it more for the cooler air that will be entering the engine bay.

Fabian, I am sending the headlight out to a shop to get it done professionally. Ill post pics when I get it back!

And yes, I def need the low beam to work.

I am using a 2g mas.

Yes, Just need cool air for the air filter, "ram air" is useless on a turbo car, the turbo does all the sucking and compressing...excuse the title as it may be misleading to some.

This mod (just like removing the headlight at the track) is proven to increase mph by 2-3. That can be the difference between a 12.1 and an 11.9 LOL

UPDATE AS OF SATURDAY AFTERNOON:

Headlight has been shipped!

Driving around with one headlight right now (during the day only) :)

Project2G, you can use your headlights right, and dose any water get in side of the headlight???

It's sealed so no moisture can get inside.

That looks very nice Project2G, Did you use PVC as well and what is the black coating? Notice any benefits after modding?

I'm not trying to be a smart butt or anything. What happens if you go out and the day starts off sunny but all of a sudden it starts to pour down raining and you are on the freeway?

Then you go in your trunk and bust out your spare driver complete headlight.

I thought everybody carried a spare around.

Depending on the intensity of the rain, it could get in there I guess...
