hey guys, i am from washington state, and i am going to be soon moving up to oakville ontario to live with my girlfriend, and i am goign to be attending sheridan college for welding techniques. im trying to bring my DSM there but i have absolutely NO emissions equipment on my car, EGR id deleted, charcoal canister deleted, i have a test pipe with no cat, now i did call a shop and they said i should just need a cat even if its hollowed out to pass visual inspection. but my question is. since i am from the states, a US citizen, car is registered in washington, and so is my license, do i have to worry about this? i just wanna hit up the toronto drag strip while im there, this car will be a daily driver. i have no clue what the bare minimum requirements for emissions around there are or if i even need to worry about it if im not registering the car there. any and all help appreciated. i LOVE CANADA!:hellyeah:

I dont think you need to worry, I live in northern ontario where there is no emmisions testing, and I was told since I am registered where there is no emmissions testing, that I didn't have to worry about it. He may get you for noise just to get you with something, because of the no cat, if hes having a bad day..... Odds are it wont happen and you wont have issues.

thanks man:thumb: been waiting for a response here, i called an oakville E test shop and they pretty much said the same thing, they also said it was a 500 dollar fine for each emissions thin missing, but that the techs wouldent even know what a charcoal evap canister was. he also said if i have an EGR block off that was fine. so basically i have to get a legit catch can cause im rockin a gatorade bottle, and i need a fake cat just incase. maybe ill cut one in half and tack weld it around to the exhaust :) just to pass visual.

I used to live in Ontario.

Make sure for your emissions testing, you select a shop that cannot do awd vehicles. It cuts down on the number of tests.

Your chances of getting through an etest inspection on scathed is based on the technician doing the inspection. Some of them will know what your car is and what is supposed to be where.

I wish you luck with your move. Sheridan College is one of the best artistic schools in Canada. ;)

Although, it all depends on how long you plan on living there. If you come in and get a canadian driver's license, you will be forced to follow our laws. You can live in a place for 90 days before you need to have the vehicle out of province inspected. You will also probably have to do an importation of your vehicle to Canada as well.

ill be going to school the having a visa, and being a US citizen usually canada likes us, i can be a visitor for 6 months and then go to the US for a day and my "visitor" visa renews for another 6 months, i plan to drive the car through the boarder at the rainbow bridge over niagra falls and the past 16 times ive driven through they havent really had a problem with me :)

I live in Richmond Hill (north of Toronto) and have to go through emissions testing every 2 years ( like everyone else in Southern Ontario) You're already one step up because of your GSX. There is an idle test and a 2500rpm test to simulate driving conditions as they don't dyno AWD vehicles.
Just make sure you're cat is up to snuff if you plan on switching plates or keep your car registered in the US. All I had was a cat and i tweaked my tune for emissions, passed no problem.

Cheers
