Edmonton,
Hey guys whats up, I'm from Edmonton Alberta. I'm new to DSMs but not new to the sport compact scene Ive built a few Nissans and Toyotas in the past. A while back I picked up a 92 talon TSi AWD with a 6 bolt, the tranny was in rough shape, it grinds 2nd and 3rd sometimes, and grinded reverse and 1st before I adjusted the clutch. So anyways I blew the head gasket the other day so now I am planning to rebuild the engine and the transmission. I am confident I can rebuild the engine no problem but I am a bit worried about the transmission. My question is have any of you guys in Canada had your transmission rebuilt by a professional shop in the USA such as Jacks, Shep, TRE, or Dog Box? If so how did your experience go, and was shipping a major pain? And if anyone has rebuilt one them self where did you get the parts to do it? I have access to all the tools that would be needed and a bit of experience rebuilding engines so I think I could probably pull it off with the right parts. Also I plan to buy most of my engine rebuild parts from slowboyracing.com has anyone here in Canada had any experience buying from them, or recommendations for another shop or website?

-thanks, and any input or suggestions are appreciated.

Not from Canada, but if your going to have someone rebuild your tranny in the states, go with Shep. Or I think you could order you parts from him and do it yourself. I rebuilt a Manual trans in drivetrain class, and wasn't that bad. Most of what you need to get as for information is in those Haynes manuals or you can find alot of info here just use the search funtion.OR Visual Frequently Answered Questions - Home Page Some really good reading material..

your push rod from the hydralic cylinder for the clutch has a back up nut on it to keep it tight .but mine has backed of several times making it hard to go into certain gears .you might want to check it out first ,it is above the gas pedal .

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I have looked at the VFAQ and through the shopkey manuals on rebuilding the trans and even though those manuals leave a bit to be desired but I think I would be successfully able to rebuild one. I would prefer to rebuild it myself as it would be a good learning experience and I would probably save some money. I will try contact shep today to see if he will ship parts to Canada. TRE has a great selection of parts for DIY rebuilds but I have heard that TRE will not ship to Canada, I e-mailed him but I am still waiting for a reply. Can anyone confirm a quality place that will ship to Canada?

I have adjusted the clutch, that stopped the 1st and reverse grind but 2nd and 3rd are still really bad. I also tried a new slave and master cylinder, longer slave plus rod, bleeding the clutch, and fixing the pedal height thing that get worn out. It still grinds 2nd really bad and I am quite sure that it is the syncros that are gone and if I want it to stop it needs a rebuild. So what I am realy looking for is anyone in Canada that has bought transmission parts from somewhere in the states or even locally and if you could recommend a good place. The reson I am so concerned is I have had some nightmares dealing with companies in the states while getting parts for my sr20 that I was building. There was also some very good ones the difference was like night and day. So if anyone has any recommendations on any places your input would be greatly appreciated.

-Thanks

I belive SupaDexta got his rebuild from Jack's. He is also from Edmonton, there are lot of guys here that living in Edmonton. You can check out calgary area dsm club, since NACDSM is very quiet (Edmonton based).

I think it was a month or 5 weeks or something.. Can't remember, I wasn't in a hurry for it at the time really.

And yes, Jacks great to deal with. Next up is a twin disk of some sort for me.
