92 TSI 1G running Problems

I have a 92 TSI AWD with the 4G63 and the car ran fine when i first got it but had a idiling surge problem and now the car drains it self of power i have to jump start to get running and it will just die down and there will be no power and i have already replaced the alternator checked throughout the car for bad wires and taped a few things up and its still dying ive also tried swaping the battery twice and it dies down n looses power every time? now the surging is either my IACV or the MAF would that have anything to do with smelling strongly of gas?

Yes it would I had that prom born on my 97 eclipse and I changed my maf and it worked fine after that also make sure ## cat isn't clogged
