I am tryin to position my cams at TDC, and the crank at TDC, We forgot to mark them when remoing the timing belt, now both cam markings are at 12, and the crank mark is almost at 4, Would the crank at 4 allow me to turn the cam sprockets to get them at 3 and 9 without bending valves, then allow me to turn the crank to TDC set the rear balance shaft and then replace my timing belt?

Thnk you

if both are closed (intake and exhaust) you can turn the crank anyway you want and not worry about touchign the valves. Then simply turn your gears back then slip the belt on.

BTW- you did eliminate the BS right:thumb:

No we didn't eleminate the BS, it's for a buddy of mine, and he would rather keep them in instead of removing them, he cares more about the ride than performance.

Thanks

Is the timing belt off?

What I like to do is rotate the crank 90 degrees, so that none of the pistons are near the valves. Then, I set up the cams. You don't want to use the pins, you want to use the 4 tickmarks at the outside of the gears. They should line up with a straightedge, and with the top of the head.

Once the cams are set, put the belt on them and clamp it on so that it won't slip. Turn the crank so that it's at TDC, as well as the BS crap, and put the belt on. Then, tension it.

You'll notice that the stuff may move some when you tension the belt, so just keep that in mind when you live everything up. Try to keep all the slack on the tensioner side of the belt.
