I'm not sure if this thread belongs here, but what the hell. I'm strongly contemplating getting polyurethane motor mounts to eliminate as much wheel hop as possible which is good, but the bad part is that I hear that it makes for a very shitty ride. I would only like to hear from those who currently, or previously had motor mounts installed. Is crappy driving 29 days out of the month worth it for just one day(if that) at the track with minimal wheel hop? Ideas?

hey, ive heard you lose sum ride quality 2, but just because it makes the car vibrate more, i dont think thats a big deal. I plan on getting sum because you lose less power to your wheels with them, so i think its a fair trade off.

Very true, I just wish I knew how much more vibration......

It's a bit more, but not too bad. I don't even notice it anymore. :)

Get them, they are worth it.

Dont sweat it you wuss ;) Get them, enjoy them and get used to them... then you will be back on the board in a month or so posting and telling someone to get them cause they are worth it.

Get the inserts. I wouldn't get anything harder for a daily driver. I still get some wheel hop, usually when I'm getting on and off the thottle trying to keep traction in 1st gear, not as bad as it was before, worth every penny. I got the front and backs from ptuning.com

hehe, i know that would make crazy vibration through the car^^or at least it sounds like it would 2 me
but if its not your daily driver then go for it:thumb:

Inserts are the way to go. The front and back mounts make the biggest difference. The side mounts do go bad so might as well make it a complete set. The vibration is not that bad. It makes as much vibration as an aftermarket turbo back exhaust. MAN UP and just deal with it. It's not teeth chattering vibration. Just use 3M windo-weld to fill them in. BOTTOM LINE, THE BENEFITS OF INSERTS FAR OUTWEIGHT THE NEGATIVES.

I have no balance shafts, and mine are filled in with windo weld. The car vibrates a bit, but it honestly is not that bad. It's also VERY NICE not to have the motor moving all over the place.

Boosted98GSX, you are right about the balance shafts, BUT if you read carefully kpt mentions his motor mounts being filled with windo-weld. That is the same as inserts or any aftermarket motor mounts.

Engine heat will get to window welded motor mounts and they get mushy or melt out or something. Best off buying soild mounts or inserts. I Think mine were like $25 shipped. :thumb:

i installed them after getting my engine redone with balance shaft elim etc .. feels like im riding in a early 70's something.. hehe

This is the same thing I'm struggling with. Should I get the prothane polyurethane motor mounts, or the ES inserts? I wish there was someone around here that had either one of them that would take me for a spin. As far as helping wheel hop, the solid polyurethane replacements would obviously help the most but in turn transfer the most vibration to the cabin, or get inserts which will not hold the motor in place quite as well but should be an improvement without as much vibration. Since I drive my car daily I really don't want crazy amounts of vibration, and my interior rattles enough as it is... I'm leaning more towards the inserts at this point. My reasoning is not as much vibration, should help hop a bit, bit if it doesn'thelp enough there is still another option at that point. I heard that replacing either or both the front control arm bushings and upper shock mount bushings with polyurethane bushings can also help which of course would leave me with another option if the inserts don't satisfy me. But enough of my ramblings! What to do, what to do... I still can't decide. :(

Makes no difference which kit you decide on. They both use inserts for the front and back mounts. It is only the side mounts that get the full replacements. I believe that Energy Suspension sells just the inserts. Remember, the front and back mounts make the biggest difference. You will get more from just the inserts than if you were to just do full replacements of the side mounts.

Thanks alot for all your info.......mounts will be my next upgrade

And candela......bite me. :D j/k

The rear Prothane is a full replacement, not an insert. At least in the 1g kit it is anyway...

Which kit is that? Front and Rear are inserts and sides are full replacements as said above. At leist thats how the prothane kit is, I am not positive about the Energy...

I have the ES motor mount inserts and they do make the car vibrate just a little, but it's really not that noticable. For me, so far it has not made a difference with reducing wheel hop. I installed these mounts along with bm lsd and I will still get wheel hop in first and occassionally second.

Thanks, good to see not everyone is a complete moron.:D :thumb:

The prothanes is good. No wheel hop in most cases.

only down sides are

something is vibrating/rubbing making a squealing sound at idle (not saying they all do this but it could happen on your car too)

The idle might be shaky but I bump my idle up to 900 it feels very decent. 750 is alot rougher. easily fixed with a higher idle.
