Is this turbo the one?

Looks like an alright idea but with a few more bills you could step up to a big 16, or something w/ a little more flow. But I don't think that you should have any problem beating a 5.0 stang. Just last weekend I I beat a 1991 5.0 stang (stock) with my FWD talon (12 psi). So I Hope you be able to beat a Firehawk, or Z28.

There is only ONE problem with buying that turbo. It doesn't have a turbine housing. They are telling you to take the housing off your stock turbo and put it on this one. In theory it's a money saver and a good idea, but here's the bad parts:

1) actually having to remove the housing from your stock turbo. It can be a PITA to remove, then what do you do with your stock turbo? Very hard to sell it with no turbine housing.

2) The really bad part.......stock turbine housing is only 6cm^2, while true 16G housing is a 7cm^2 housing. That means you are going to have to port the #@%#@%#@%#@% out of that thing to make it a true 7cm^2 housing. It can be done.....in about 4-5 hours of porting, if you are lucky. Also, if you leave it at 6cm^2, it's gonna spool pretty quick (same spool time as 14b), but your top end is gonna be choked down pretty badly due to teh small opening in the housing.

The ONLY reason to get something like the 16G cartridge with no housing, is either to replace a blown cartridge, or that setup would make an EXCELLENT autocross turbo. As for racing/beating 5.0 Mustangs, that all depends on what's on the Mustang and your driving ability. Guys have put AWD DSM's into the 12's for less than $1500, and that includes doing it on the stock turbo.

So, unless your turbo is shot, look elsewhere for a turbo. 16G isn't a BAD idea, just buying one without a turbine housing is.

Why do people still think this is true?

YOU CANNOT PORT A 6CM HOUSING AND MAKE IT A 7CM HOUSING. CAN'T, CAN'T, CAN'T.

"6cm" and "7cm" are in reference to the volume of the scroll portion of the turbo. You can't port that. The opening of a 7cm housing IS NOT 7cm, it's like 55mm or something. I'm not sure. But the size of the housing is in no way, shape or form in reference to the turbine inlet. Infact, just to back this up even further, an 8cm housing has the same sized inlet as a 6cm while the 7cm housing has the largest.
