i just got a 1g intake mani and wanna put it onto my 2g. i know that the ports are different sizes but i just wanted to know if i have to get the ports on the heads matched now or could i just wait and put the 1g intake on and have it gasket matched to the stock 2g head? i've never changed the manifold on a dsm so i didnt know if i had to take the head off anyways. if someone could give me a quick breakdown of what is gonna be involved with changin this manifold it would be a big help. thanks
 
If you were swapping an intake mani from a 2G on, you wouldn't have to take off the head....

I'd recommend port matching your head to the intake mani. I've read three seperate stories of guys using 1G intake manis on 2G heads and having major idle problems.

No firsthand experience, however. YMMV.
 
i have done this swap. let me tell you, its quite a project. getting the lower bolts off the manifold is a nightmare.

make sure you really want it on there before you tackle this job.
 
I had no idle problems at all, and no trouble getting it off. part of the reason mine was so easy to get off is that the support bracket for the intake mani was not there like it should been. Other than that, if you have long arms like me, its not too hard to just reach up there and pull em off, i didnt even use penetrating lubricant. Only problem is that on the 1g there is no MAP sensor socket. I will have a logger in a few days, and will let you know what codes its setting off.

haha, when I had trouble putting a bolt in with my fingers while doing my doorhandle repair, I got my lil bro to come help me.

Anyway, there is supposed to be a goldish colored bracket supporting the intake mani. It attaches to two bolts underneath the lowest portion of the runners, and I dunno where it goes. Mine was hanging by a cluster of wires that was strewn through the middle of it. I just left it off when I did the swap.
