14b to port or not to port

here's th deal...i will eventually upgrade to a 16G or 19C turbo in the future, i am just unsure if it is a good idea to port the 14b, how much of a difference does it make on a turbo that size and how much would it cost to get done...having the shop do all of the work...taking it out etc???
the car only has 40k on it.and it is the orig turbo

I think it depends on when you are going to upgrade your exhaust manifold and O2 housing. To get the turbo off, you practically have to pull the O2 housing and while you're in there, it nice and easy to get the exhaust manifold off and replace any broken studs. Getting your turbo ported is a drop in the bucket compared to a new turbo and supporting mods. I ported my turbo to near 7cm myself when I put my ported 2g manifold and O2 housing on with my 2.5" turbo-back. I'm not sure how much difference it made since I put everything on at once, but at least I know it's all matching and flow is consistent if anything.

If you decide to do this, here are some tips:
1. Pull your radiator so you don't accidentally smash the fins
2. Get a SS oil supply line
3. Replace the little rubber coolant hoses while you are in there
4. Get a bolt to replace the stud that goes between the turbo and the exhaust manifold. This will save you a LOT of grief later.
