While assembling my engine I ran accros this alignment "weirdness" with my cam sprockets and timing belt???

After rotating the timed assembly several revolutions, the belt aligns itself to the position shown in the picture

At first I thought it might be the new set of Crower 64413 cams, but as a test, I assembled the head with a stock set of cams, pretty much the same result!

The belt alignment on the lower idlers and crank/oil pump sprockets look normal!

Any Ideas?

Thanks,
John-

don't worry about it, it is normal, the cam sprokets stick out just a little bit more than the idler pulleys so it off sets the belt a little bit. it will be just fine.

This motor is BAD, get this this is a guy who's daily driver was(and still is when tha talons down) is a BLOWN Small blk chev in a late 70's pick up. Kill's me every time he comes over top get parts for the talon in his truck:laugh:

Has anyone seen this before??

I've spent a lot of money on this engine, and would hate to see it self destruct because of something simple that I missed!

I have assembled it a total of three times so far, twice using the crowers, and once using a stock set of cams.

As I rotate the crank, the belt seems to "walk" back and forth on the pully. I snapped the picture with it at it's farthest point. then I rotated the engine over some more and the belt "walked" back toward the center of the cam sprockets???

Thanks,
John-

My belt did the same thing when I the timing belt was done and I asked about the belt being "off center" on the sprocket and it self centered itself. I highly doubt that it is enough movement to cause the belt to slip off of the cam sprockets.

You have the dreaded... BELT WALK!!!

Seriously - My bet is you bent a Cam Gear during one of these Cam changing evolutions - So the prudent thing to do would be to check for that.
