I have about 1500 miles on my new engine. My set-up is with Ross forged pistons .020 over (when bored they used a deck plate) rings gap is set to spec. 4 layer head gasket, arp head studs, ported head etc. My question is I'm still burning oil I say about 1/2 quart a week. Is this normal? I know with forged pistons your always going to burn oil but is this to much?

That is too much.
Is it the engine or something else like leaks or turbo?

No oil leaks and the turbo is also new, same amount of miles as the engine.

Run some tests and find out what's wrong because something is wrong.
Did your oil pressure change? Overheat, incorrect air-fuel ratio, detonation? If you still have the cat on it you might not see the blue smoke after the cat gets hot enough. Have somebody drive behind you to look at the exh gases .
Whatever you do find out what's going on.
Keep us posted.

Mitch.

the head was alos redone.. I have no cat downpipe to 2 1/2" exhaust. I just got my logging software logged the other day and I'm getting about 28 counts of knock and it's pulling timing to about 4 degrees. The walbro 255 is over riding the stock fpr. So I'm going to have to get a adjustable and tune then. For now I'll be easy on the car.

If I were you, I would do a compression or leak-down test to pinpoint what was leaking. If you are indeed burning oil, then its obvious that oil is somehow getting into your combust chambers. Either you didn't set up the new piston rings right (too loose, or they broke) or there is something screwed up with the cylinder head (most likely the cylinder head). Is the head brand new also? Could be the valve seals.

The head was also redone. new seals and I believe they replace 7 exhaust valves. I'll do a compression and a leak-down test this weekend. and let you know how I made out

Did the valves you replaced get smacked and did they replace the guides?

the machine shop said they were burned. I'm sure he replaced the guides as well I can't remember. I'll have to check

Now that I think about it, I remember seeing blue-ish smoke in the rear view after I get on it hard. But only them. Now much smoke. I remember by friend was having the same problem with his new B16g turbo after installing. But it went away. I'm still going to do the leak down test tomorrow. Keep you posted

Just did a comp. test
#1 cyl = 185 psi
#2 cyl = 188
#3 cyl = 190
#4 cyl = 190

The did a leak down and the 1st is losing air. I hear it coming out of the exhaust valve (coming into the exhaust man.) This sucks I paid good money for the machine work from a rep. machine shop. The rest of the cyl are perfect.

Well there you go, thats probably the reason your burning at least some of the oil. If I were you, I'd have a nice chat with that machine shop of yours =)

I want no part of this macine shop I took it to. I paid way to much for what I got done and it took 4 months. When he said 3-4 weeks max. Every time I went back to check on it (as he told me to) I was always another excuse. This is the 2nd motor I took there. The 1st motor was a 2.5 turbo chrysler motor. Once I assembled the motor I lost oil pressure at idle after a few min. of running. He said it wasn't his problem his work is 100% correct. So we went to another machine shop got a new crank and it was fixed. The owner of the car is taking him to court now. But I want nothing to do with him. I sent you a pm.
