Any good numbers on the PTE 56 trim?

Corpus Christi,
I'm thinking about buying this turbo and want to know if its up to the task.

I was running a 62-1 TO4E/stgV. .63
Ran some 11.0's @ 130 at 28ish lbs of boost.
Mods
2.4, Bj's stg IV head, 272's, magnus intake, stock tb, BR race core, 3in IC piping, 3 1/2in exhaust, VPC/AFC, 650cc inj, coil on plug/MSD DIS 2, You get the idea, fully built!

Not really worried about spool up as long as it's before 45, 4600 rpm. The 62-1 was at 20 psi at 3600 so I figure the 56 trim will prolly spool faster than the 62-1. Has this turbo put out more than 600 to the wheels or not? I have a BB T-70/Ptrim sitting here if the 56 trim isn't up to it. But I know with the T-70 the VPC won't be enuff. You guys let me know what kinda numbers your putting down with the 56 trim.

Thanks

nice numbers brian, so why are you giving up on your 62-1, i just figured you would be at high 10's with it. Have you reached it's full potential (s/p?)

I know the 56 trim has put down over 600 to the tires on other vehicles, but not sure if anyone has taken it that far on a DSM. (I believe it was an MR2 that made like 640, or something along those lines.) What will be nice is you'll be able to make more pump gas power with the 56 trim than with the 62-1, and yes, I too think it will spool faster as well. If I still had my DSM, this was the turbo I was going to go with. If you try it, let us know what kind of luck you have.

Regards,

god damn those are some big ass turbos.:thumb:

As far as the 56 i havent seen many dyno's on it. They sell really well though but i have never had one on the dyno, i will ask around and see if any of my customers have dynoed em. hell maybe ill setup a dyno time for one. Anyway running a 4G64, i would stick to the 62-1, i mean you have the spool ability of a monster, why down size?

My vote is stick to the 62-1 and have a nice day.

have a friend that put down 407whp on 92 oct and 21psi.

His Car - 1G AWD (6bolt)
1G rods w/2g pistons
272's
IRC FMIC
2.5" I/C piping
PTE 56 trim
VPE 02 with tail waist gate (had to have ported due to creap with the 56 trim)
-SAFC
-Walboro 255
-FPR
-680's (now swapping to 850's)
-2G Mas
-very mild port on head
-8.5mm wires
-NGK BPR7es Spark plugs

Stock TB, Stock Intake Manifold, Ported 2G exh Mani,

I could be incorrect, but the 56 trim is actually a bit 'larger' than the 62-1.

Regards,

No offense but those numbers kind of suck. Its probably just not enough boost for the 56 trim to be in its efficiency range but the pump gas is most likely hoding him back from turning it up. The 56 trim is definately not a pump gas turbo.

My reaction to the original question would be that 600whp might be pushing it. Put it this way, Buschur's orange car made 580 whp with the BR580 (56 trim) without nitrous so I'd guess most of us will not see that number with spray.

Well I think I was making around 525 to the wheels. I had it on the dyno once, but blew the head gasket on the way to the dyno, made one pull and put down 476 and my A/F ratio above 6k was at 14to1, this was with a 255lph fuel pump, since went to a Aeromotive A1000 and solved the leaning out problems.

Anyway, no I don't think I maxed out the 62-1, but looking at the compressor map it's not that great for high boost, more than 25lbs is pushing it. It seemed to surge or cavitate above 28lbs!

Can someone tell me where the 56 trim is happy? I'm not that good with compressor maps. I would like to run up to 35 lbs without being so far out of it's effiency range it's not even funny. Thats why I like the T-series wheels, there great for high boost.

Thanks for the replies!

I would say that a 56 trim - T350 Garrett turbo would be able to produce more power than the 62-1, but for drag racing, I wouldn't think there would be much of a difference on race gas. I have been researching the forums and reading reviews and have been very impressed with the FP3052 turbo. It would work excellently for a street setup and flows really well at high boost levels. For your application I would go with an FP3065 though, as the 2.4-liter would be a little much for an FP3052 ( not that it can't flow enough, but the larger FP30 would be better matched to the larger motor, just common sense ).

Or search "FP3052" on this site. I believe JDMawd and someone else was or is running that turbo ( the FP3052 ) and has had great results. :thumb:

yes. with a setup like yours. I would go either full GT35R or make the best with the stock manifold and use the FP3065.
