Ok, here's the deal. My wife LOVES the 2G Eclipse. It's her favorite car of all time. I've fallen in love with it too, despite having 4 other cars all Nissan. But, alas tragedy struck last week.

We were driving on one of the main roads in town when I was forced to pull to the side of the road. My friend didn't put mu hood down all the way for some reason and it flew up. No big deal... we stopped on the side of the road, put the hazards on and I got out to shut it. I get it shut after wrestling with it for half a minute or so... the hinges jammed... then hopped back in the car. I reached for my belt and BAM, BAM.... 2 people creamed us from behind doing 50. Not one... two.

*sigh*

Well, lets put it this way. We're hurting BAD, the car's totalled... after spending $8000 to put on a Qwhees widebody kit 2 months ago. I've got plenty pics... it's painful.

Anyway... long sotry short, we're getting money. Hopefully a decent amount since it was clearly their fault. We need a replacement 2G spyder. Not immediately... I want to do it right. I need to know what to look for in a chassis.

She HAS to have it turbo (can you blame her), but I'm going to buy a Magnus 2.4 longrod, custom Magnus heads and a FP3052. Question is... can I get a cheapo NT 4G64 Spyder to drop this block in? Will the transmission mate? I've tried search, but it hasn't helped too much.

Also - if YOU were going to buy the motor and heads... where would you get it and which. I'm looking to spend less then $5000 shipped for a 2.4 shortblock and haven't set a price on the heads. I like the 4G63 2.0, but I'd rather have the extra displacement. Since I'm getting a biggie turbo, I'm looking for more exhaust gas :) I'm almost sold on the Magnus block. I can't find a better deal on a 2.4... can you?

- BTW - yes, I know I'll need to beef up the tranny too, but I'll take that into account when I nail down the motor.

I'm sure I'll post more as this develops. I REALLY want to DO IT RIGHT since we have the time and money now. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

sorry about the loss.. not really an expert with ur engine questions.. but hwy not try and get a hold of an AWD DSM this time around.. or live a little and make urself a GSX Spyder..

shit.....
i call dibs on the front bumper if its ..no wait its a widebody kit
shit..
sorry to hear that man..
cant help you on your build up question, although you could go to auto auctions and look for what you want and spend all the money you get on that..

I see your doing a lot with Nissan cars. They are great and have some awesome motors. My dad runs a Maxima on nitrous that goes 12.1 @110mph so I know the power and reliability of Nissan's stuff...

The GST is a great and being convertable, it's acctually a nice looking car that a guy can drive thats convertable. Not many of them under the price of a vette.

The DSM powered cars can make lots of power, but like other people said go with a AWD seriving next time, however you can not get Spyder and AWD together. So your either buying a Spyder and converting it (big job) or buying a hard top (she may not like.)

Either way, it's always nice to keep the family of cars a little different.

First... It HAS to be a Spyder. No leeway there.

Second... WE ARE getting a GSX drivetrain swap... that's why I don't need suggestions on building the tranny. I DO need it to bolt up to the stock tranny for now. I can't afford the downtime necissary to do the GSX swap. We are, however... make NO mistake!! I'm all about all wheel drive. Just check out my RB26DETT AWD swap into the 240Z.

Can anyone help? All I really need to know is if I'll have to custom fab mounts and get another transmission immediately if I get a NT spyder. I would ASSUME that I wouldn't have to, being that it's the same chassis... but I need to be 110% sure before I sink my wallet into it. If we can save the couple grand from GST->GS that goes a long way towards the project.

We'll go to auctions when they come around. I'm buying the motor and accessories first then I'll get the donor.

Help? It should be a quickie question...?

DSMJim - I thought your dad's Max died... maybe I have it confused with another? maxima.org member?

I am 99.9% postitive that the 5spd GST and 5spd Spyders trannies use the same mounts. And both engines are 7bolts so they even *could* use the same flywheel, and clutch is the same as well :p

the only thing id be concerned about is the gs tranny handling the power of a turbo 2.4L, so id check into that a little more... try asking your mitsu dealership.
