1g or 2g engine?

im debating on putting a 1g or 2g motor in my 95 gsx eclipse. ive heard many stories and wondering if i well see benefits. i am planning on doin mild work on the engine. forged pistons, bored 30 over and etc. the only thing i was thinking about that might be a real good idea is not having to worry about crank walk if i put in a 1g. i was thinkin if i put a 1g in it will it set off my check engine light and would it fit and would it take alot of effort and need to put 1g maf and etc and even would it bolt up to the trans. the main thing is would a 1g produce more power with some work than a 2g with the same work.

go with a 1g..might have to replace the ecu...not sure tho. but alot better than having to worry about crankwalk...

You can use a 6 bolt block from a first gen and use the 2g head but make sure that the gasket matches and use a 2g oil pump. This will not turn on your check engine light and you will more likely pass emissions if that is a concern too (O.B.D. II check).

Would it set off the CEL if you use the full 1G long block?

It won't set off the check engine light if you use a 1g ECU but you won't pass emissions ever because your 97 is O.B.D. II and a 1g is O.B.D. I.
