I will purchase one when i put in my 550's for my 16g, i am on a budget an looking for the best bang for the buck, i don't know what useable features the S-AFC II, but i just need something for my daily driven eclipse, it's just another one in the bunch so i'm not looking to be all fancy with the S-AFC II, just want the best unit to tune and keep the car stable.

Thanks

ya knock wont read on a 2g, i would say go with what ever is cheaper and that you have a 95 eprom u could get dsmlink :thumb: and maybe we could work something out with u giving me your ecu plus money and ill give u mine and my afc, pm for that LOL

The safc II has 12 points (not 16) vs. the safc I which has only 8. Some other features are password protected, you can save two settings, and it has a knock sensor reading (won't work on 2g cuz i dont think they have accessible knock sensors).

Isn't knock reading a very vital thing to look at when you're tuning? I thought you used it to check when you had it too lean.

You are right Toshiro, but with 2g's most people tune for a good steady timing advance curve, most 1g guys tune for knock.

So 2G tuners just watch the timing curve, and when the computer retards the timing, that means the engine knocked there. Right?

so the s-afc II is worth the extra 100? i'm looking for low 13's as my ultimate goal.

Yes, you want as much timing as you can get, and you can tell when you're knocking because the timing is pulled (less timing advance).

I think you got that backwards.

Ever tried using that all-for-one button on the center of the SAFC2? What a pain in the ass. They should have stuck with the four buttons. Trying to press on the center of that little stick to select a change is soo annoying I almost ripped one out of a car the other day.

SAFC2 :thumbdown simply for the stupid-ass controls.

i have heard a couple people have made the knock counter work for the 2g's. has anyone on here done it? is it possible?

It works for me, you just have to set the knock reading from a raw number into something you can understand, read the manual it will tell you how to do it. I dont think it is very accurate though, but it does give me consistant numbers

Different is OBD1 cars view knock in counts of knock which were all used to. You see 6-10 and you know something is up, you see 15+ it pulls timing etc.. (or whatever...)

On OBD2 it's a Raw knock count that the ECU translates. So when you view this number you will see something that fluxuates all the time and a number that is always present. Like 0.5837 then it changes to 0.6848. Does this mean you have almost one count of knock or 5 counts of knock. Or is this number vibration turned into something numerical for the ECU to count. Who knows what it is, which is why watching it is pretty well useless.

SAFC 1 is still the best buy, I hate that controls on SAFC2 though I have been told you get used to them after time.

werd to that.

i wouldn't say that, you can shoot for so much timing you can blow your motor

Don't be stupid. He said as much as you CAN get. More timing is always good if there is no knock.

S-AFCII is a better choice. I don't have trouble with a small joystick versus buttons, but to each his own.

at least the s-afc II has two fuel maps, that is very useful, and you will get used to the stupid ''joystick''

Also mine does show knock but i don't know why, i wasn't expeting it to read knock.:dsm: :laser: :talon:

yeah the controls on the afc II SUCK. i really dont know how they could have gotten put into production...must not have dont much if any product testing.

but since i will be switching from pump and race gas at time, the two settings feature is really nice, as well as the extra adjustment points
