Hey fellas...
I got this 1G 92 Talon I'm restoring, and it's all done (after engine swap and many many many things that went wrong during it)

One problem persists: it's smoking. It's better than when it was first sarted, but still smokes.
What are you suggestions:
Piston rings (compression seems to be normal)
Valve seals ?

anything else ?

There used to be an AWESOME page that would tell you what each color meant coming out of the exhaust, and would show you how to try and diagnose where the problem was coming from, but the link is dead.

My money is on the turbo though, Good Luck. if your going to fix it, you might as well modify it

I'm going to give you more details tonight. I haven't seen it myself yet after it has been finished. I'm going down to the shop to see it and get all the details.

P.S. If piston rings are bad, would that be reflected on compression ?

Yes. I highly doubt there is any problem with the rings. The bore could be worn and the cylinder out of round.
Most of the burning oil I have seen on DSMs has been from valve stem seals.

MY 96 tsi awd started puffing out blue smoke and it kept getting worst. Eventually became black smoke. Next thing I know Im on the express way at 95mph and I lose power and stall. Point is I let the problem go for along time and I blew out two cylinders and all the pistons and rings. I just got the money together and my dealership fixed it $3500. Take care of it peace jeff

AHHHHHHHHH! A DEALER!!!!!! what were u thinkin man? i guess engine overhauls arnt easy but still. dealers are the devil man. stay away from em.

-My 1st attemp on rebuilding my current 4G63, I did the final assm on the short block after the machine shop did the machining, I did clean the oil passages as much as I could but didn't have compressed air to blowed them out,..... start smoking 30 minutes after the motor start, steel debris has ruin the rings, crank & oil pump.
