i am replacing the head gaset and i need to know what i need to get to get the head bolts off... i dont know exactly what they are mabey a hex, but if someone could tell me what is it and what size and possibly where i can get it i will be happy

This goes without saying really, but read the manual. If you are pulling your head, I really hope you have a manual because without it you will probably be lost. Now here is the question, are you wanting to know how to remove a stock head bolt, or an ARP stud? I have a 1g so I don't know the size of the hex on the stock bolt. The ARP head stud diameter is 12mm for a 6 bolt motor and 11mm for a 7 bolt motor. I don't recall offhand the size of the nut for them though. How hard it is it to try a few deep sockets until one fits anyway?

yea it's a hex, i can't remember what size off hand, but you can pick it up at a parts store or the hardware

If you're talking about just unscrewing the ARP studs, then it is a smaller hex head, probably somewhere in the vicinity of 6mm but I'm not really sure.

Wrong. The ARP head bolts for that car are none of the sockets mentioned. i ran into the same problem. it is a 12mm 8 point socket. Stock 2g head bolts are not a 12 point 10mm. A 10mm head bolt, come on. Stock is a 12mm 12 pont. ARP uses a screwy setup on their head bolts for a 2g. I tried everything before 8 point. i tried 12 point 11,12,13, 1/2, 7/16 and the same for 6 point. Good luck with those poorly engineered head bolts

Pay attention. This thread is over 2 years old and many of the people in it do not frequent the site often anymore.

FYI - ARP doesnt make head bolts for the 4G63. They make head studs......

thank you, I was getting confused as f%(^ because I didn't know if I was crazy, or if apr made head bolts as well as head studs.
