Ok guys, before you tell me, yes I have done extensive research on crankwalked motors and have looked at many the possible solutions. Including the 6-bolt swap, the 2.4L hybrid, and some of the smaller fixes. My question is more of a survey I guess, but how many people have started to experience symptoms of crankwalk, and then built/rebuilt their motors (obviously replacing the crankshaft and bearings) eliminating symptoms? If so, how'd it work out? And what was done/changed?

The reason I ask is because I think I may have had some symptoms of crankwalk (ticking sounds, sticky clutch) at which point I changed out the thrust bearings and have been going good for about 8k miles. I plan on building my motor, or just swapping out to a 6-bolt alltogether. Of course, either way, I will build the motor that the car will run on. I also debated the 2.4L hybrid, but don't know if the cost is worth the power gains/spool up time. All opinions and suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

Swap in a 6 bolt. Even if rebuilding the motor cures this session of CW how do you know you wont get it again in another 10k miles? You can pick up a 6 bolt for around $1000 and the swap is not that difficult... did i mention you would have a 6 bolt ;)

The cost of swapping the 6 bolt motor in is minimal compared to the benefit it provides. The 2.4L swap would be interesting, especially on a FWD. You don't want to be one of those guys who posts about how they dumped a load of hard earned cash on a 7 bolt rebuild just to have it crankwalk a few months later.

Good luck! :thumb:

exactly one year ago, my friend got crankwalk and had the engine fixed for about 2000. What did this fix provide? Crankwalk again, One year later, he will now be swapping to a 6bolt for cheaper, under 1000 because of good deals that he acquired.
