I originally posted asking about the best turbo set up for my goals. I will try to decide that for myself. But i would still like to know if i will still need a 2g install kit with say a big 16g, if i use a fmic i read somewhere that you dont need the j-pipe and the other parts in the kit can be made or modified or you just dont need them.

Let me know what you guys think?

And would a big 16g be sufficeint for 400hp range or should i go bigger like 20g, i will be mostly street driving with a few days a year at the track. When i say street driving i mean on sunny days, i have a beater for the rest of the time. I will have any and all supporting mods to go with either set-up, just havent got that far yet.

Thanks,

P.S. Car gets out of the shop on Saturday, cant wait:thumb:

400hp is almost impossible on a Big 16G. On an EvoIII, MAYBE you can get 400 crank-hp with a crapload of supporting mods. The Install kit for a 16G is not just the J-pipe. It's also new gasket for the manifold to the turbo, SS oil line as well new crush washers. If you are really confident in your install abilities, the only thing you really need to get is a SS oil line and a J-pipe. Everything else you can "make" work. As far as a front mount is concerned, find a smaller one so you don't get huge pressure drop. An 18" wide will probably be perfect for a 16G sized turbo. If you are really stuck on the 400hp goal, I would just go with a 50trim from AGP, PTE, or whoever (everyone has their own opinion). The only caveat with the 50 trim is that you MUST get your fuel system straightened out (and I don't mean just a fuel pump) as well as the basic mods (intake and exhaust, etc..) before going to a 50 trim.

Hope that helps.

I've been looking pretty seriously at the 50 trim from AGP, it looks like a great turbo. What do you mean by get your exhaust and intake straightened out. If you mean port work on mani and o2, i plan on all that. But what needs to be done to the intake?
If i do get the 50 trim do i still need the install kit or is it a whole different ballgame?

Thanks for the advice:thumb:

for a 50 trim you will first need to get the following-

255 fuel pump, 660 injectors, SAFC or DSM link, intake, 3 inch turbo back exhaust, front mount intercooler, then the basics like boost gauge and egt, boost controller. I think thats it.

I have a 97 spyder G-ST w/ exhaust, and most stage 1 mods.

Just ordered the 2-216 RnR FMIC w/ Spearco Core, and a big fat ass PTE SCM50 trim turbo.

Also ordered 660 denso injectors, EGT probe/gauge, 255 high pressure FP, profec b EBC (getting rid of my MBC), and a shit to boot!!!

P.S. when you do install your power parts, be sure to do new timing belts, b-shaft, tensioner, etc....Insurance!

Spent loot on the parts, now I need to save for the install, sh!t!

mmmm .50 trim I would love one!

You can get the install kit and the turbos from just about any body listed in the parts section of this website i.e. buschurracing.com, forcedperformance.com, exrememotorsports.com, dsmspecialties.net, slowboyracing.com, etc...

Just look under turbo's in the parts section and it will list all the sites that sell em.

Good luck and have some fun doing it.

P.S. I think that i am going to go with a 50 trim most likely from AGP maybe even a 57 or 60
