EGR plate - Yes, it does offer a gain. Although minimal, it's a very easy and cheap mod.

Plugging the vacuum ports - As long as you're not leaking boost from the ports, they're fine the way they are. I eliminated my lines and plugged the ports to get rid of potential boost leak sources.

My opinon is that it only cleans up the engine a bit.

Disabling the EGR has no effect on engine performance, other than to raise combustion chamber temperatures. The exhaust isn't being recirculated under power conditions.
