Does anyone know anything about a T-28 super 60 ( stealth turbo upgrade? Pro's Con's any input would be apprciated. He is selling it for $350. Also I was told this is a bolt on and no fuel system/ pump upgrade would be required????

Don't look so confused Larry  :) Back in the day it (the T-28) was called the Super 60. I don't know if anyone calls it that anymore but that's what it was called when I put it on my old 97 GS-T.

Pros: Quick spool
Holds boost better to redline
Capable of about 20-22psi (at least mine was)

Cons:Runs out of steam above 20-22psi
Only good for about 320 crank HP
Still a SMALL Turbo

As far as supporting mods I'd say a boost controller and fuel pump...AT A MINUMUM! There are others however that I would "recommend".

Forced Performance has what is called the BIG T-28. From all accounts I have heard that it is an INCREDIBLE turbo for the money. Very capable! I belive someone has actually run in the 11's on it !!!!!

Thanks for the help all. I already have a boost controller, and will probably look into a fuel pump now.

That is the turbo I have on my 2G. Super 60 refers to the wheel they shove into the housing. For $350, it is an alright price if it is in perfect condition. I'd try to get it for $300 if I was you. New, mine was $750 "back in the day" (1999 - Damn I have had the turbo that long!) from Turbonetics. I would at least upgrade the fuel pump with one though... that or rewire the stock one. You don't need the fuel pump unless you are going to up the boost, but if you aren't going to turn up the boost, then stick to the stock turbo.

I would also recommend at least a K&N, upgraded IC pipes and a 1G BOV. In fact, your money might be better spent on them right now for affordability, power and ease of install. If after those mods you want more, then go for the turbo, but get a fuel pump and boot controller with it. You will love the higher boost! Also, possibly an exhaust would be good. There are many thngs you "should" change when upgrading the turbo. i am simply just recommending these to you, although you don't have to do them. You will not notice the power as much without the supporting mods though.

I did a lot of searching when I bought my turbo since everyone looked down upon them back then. Email me if you want a sumary of all the emails I recieved.

Loren ran an 11.?? with the FP big T-28 on his 99GSX. This was at 22psi I believe. He usually runs an interanally gated green though. Specs on his car can be found at www.austindsm.org

Did you see all the things he has done to his car. HKS cams, front mount, ported head, 1G manifold and TB among other things. Loren is a great driver and he, brian and robert seem to have good luck with tuning their cars.

jeff

i just got an fp super 60 in today for a '99 CAVALIER Z24 i'm turbocharging friday:p
its pretty nice and is supposed to be good for 300hp. that cavalier should run pretty good. oh btw its a GIRL'S car, too cool to see chicks get into the race scene!

Hey thanks for all the input I checked out the big the Big T-28 on forced performance and i'll probably go with that on.

but at the time he ran that did he have the headwork and cams done?? and does it make that much of a difference to knock off a full second or is it all in tuning and driver?? I just want to get to the 12s one way or another.. I know I need to tune the car and I know I need to buy cams soon..

Yeah he had everything else done to the car at the time. They just pulled his green off and slapped the FP Big 28 on and took it to the track on some race gas.

Larry, I'm sure that turbo will get you into the 12's. It just takes time, tuning and launch practice, especially with an FWD.

I think this turbo is def cabable of 12's...heck, its capable of 11's on an AWD vehicle. Cams will help bigtime in 3rd gear. 1G TB and intake will also help..but I think that myself or you was an AWD, we could be hitting 12's if we got a descent 60 ft time...for that matter, anyone with the mods we both have. I think we are going to need a quaife and drag radials to do it though :> Otherwise we'll keep busting 110 plus traps at 13.XX

fp super 60 in today for a '99 CAVALIER Z24
--------------------------------------------------

Becareful with the 2.4, this tend to break at about 220hp, especially the tranny, the 4spd auto is actually stronger than the 5spd (or so people have said) so please only run about 6ish lbs of boost. If you need anymore help, visit us at www.j-body.org, we have a few turbo Z's running around that will be glad to help ya out. You might actually wana look into the new GM supercharger, its supposed to be pretty awesome.

well i dont expect to be hitting 12s anytime soon as Im trying to make the stock clutch last forever ;).. and Im adding weight to the car with the system.. but I never wnated a track car.. just something I could do everything with and be quick :)

Well, went to the 1/8 mile track tonight..they was having a King of the hill competition and let me say there were some VERY FAST cars there haha some beretta running a 4.7ish @148, thats 1/8 mile LOL...they had some blown 67'ish Corvette running 4.90's. Anyhow back to my times

Let me first set you up..this was my first time ever at any track of any kind. I was running 19lbs of boost and 93 octane gas...stock fuel maps running 9.5 to 1 A/F and 0 timing advance. Also, very conservative on the clutch and shifting (ie granny LOL)

First run:
Reaction: .9191
60 ft 2.4761
330ft 6.2527
1/8 9.3885
MPH 79.07

Second run I missed 3rd gear and let off

Reaction 1.1181
60ft 2.3787
330ft 6.1636
missed 3rd gear and somewhat coasted to a 9.7957 @ 61.16

All in all, I was pretty happy with these numbers. A good driver, turn boost up to 23-23lbs, run race gas, and advance the timing and I think I could have hit the 8's, but thats another I think, not proven. I didnt have time to get it tuned and my laptop decided to die on me on the way there and I couldn't get it to turn on (Piece of junk and its 4 months old). Working now though BAH. Next time I plan on going to the 1/4 mile track..it was closed tonight for freaking NHRA qualifier event. Oh, forgot that I wasn't stutter boxing or revving at the start...basically just punched it when the 3rd amber light went on.

Just reading on the posts up earlier.. You mentioned that the T-28 turbos should fetch a price of $300 if it's in great condition. I am considering a turbo upgrade, and the only ones I can see are from some shop (can't remember) RRE, FP? That's like $750 with a core refund of your old T-28. Can you point me in the direction of a good place besides thepartstrader, dsmtrader etc? I can't seem to find this beloved T-28 turbo! I am considering a 14b that I can get for close to that price.. or even a small/big 16g at around $500 that I can see on the trader. I have read the flow rates, and some reviews... if I plan on the auto-x then I'd be looking for this T-28. Any emails to me about the turbo would be totally appreciated! I am just turning my car into a part drag, part auto-x, but mainly fun car!

Thanks!

Used, the T28/S60 should be around $300. You best bet is to continually search the trader or post to the digest maybe. If you were to get the Big T28 new for $750, that is a killer deal too.

Brian from FP had HKS 264/264 cams, 1g tb and a 1g intake manifold. He had no head work done when he ran 13.06 @ 115 with a 2.0 60 footer. That was with his GST. The same mods on his GSX resulted in a 12.95 @ 110. His 60 ft time was a shitty 2.0, same as his GST. Keep in mind that 115 mph trap speeds is right at what a new zo6 vette runs in the 1/4.
