Is an EGT gauge that only goes up to 1600F good enough? What is the maximum temperature that the exhaust gas can reach before running into problems?

The consensus from what I've read is that 1650 is the "sweet spot" for EGTs, but that you definitely don't want to go past that-- things start melting around 1700. You will be OK only going up to 1600 with your gauge (and EGTs), but if it were me, I'd want a gauge with a little "extra" at the end, just so it would not "run out of room". I'm planning on getting one that goes to 1800.
