Here she is. It's a 98 Accord E-Bay 3" Intake w/ filter. Costs about $40. Had a bigass hole from the old Supra SMIC, so thats temoprarily covered with some black rubbery material stuff. Like?

Seconded!

What's the point of having it down there? You're not getting that much of an extra charge.

It'll do fine in the rain, the main thing u gotta worry about is hitting standing water...so no more "mudin" in the DSM.
No more sucking in warm engine air....and it's different...that's really why I did it.

People are far too worried about getting a little bit o' water on the filter. You would need some serious suction and be submerged to get any appreciable amount to the throttle body.

You're right, the water wouldn't make it to the TB, that's because it's gonna run into ohhhh, what's that thing called again..... OH yeah, the TURBO! Do you know how damaging some water droplets can be to the compressor wheel? A little water getting sucked into your turbo IS a big deal.

Just be careful when you're out in the rain:)

btw - I like the intake, can't go wrong for that kind of $$

Sorry I just paid almost 3K for my turbo setup. there is no way im driving my car in the rain and having ANY water sucked into my turbo.

Why would you waste your time with a CAI? All that happens with that cold air you're sucking is it get blown through a hot turbo and then cooled back down in the intercooler. If you want colder air why not just free up the passage to the intercooler, instead of plugging up the passage with that filter?

MY SIS WRX with the AEM intake pulls air from the same area, 2 years now with no probs on the car at all. Mods are Blitz cat back/turbosmart BOV/turbosmart boost ridser/AEM intake/Turboxs stage 2 chip.

No, actually I don't. How about you post some pictures of turbos destroyed by water drops AND point me to all of the vent threads on people who have lost a turbo to water droplets

If you start with cooler air, after it is compressed it is cooler than it would've been with the hot air. This means less heat for the intercooler to remove and lower throttle body temps.

One of my diesel truck buddies uses water injection to cool his EGT's on his turbo diesel he sprays water and alchol into the intake pre turbo and lets the water draw through the turbo and intercooler and then the engine. He has had no turbo problems and the only thing he noticed with the setup was a little more piston wash. (Get it Piston wash) LOL serious though he has had no problems at all directly spraying water into his engine.

Water injection is a fairly common way to get more power out of a setup. You use the high specific heat of water to cool the a/f mix instead of using so much extra gas like all of us here.

Or of course twin turbo's like I run! He He can you say 100 PSI + of boost in my little 5.9 litre cummins!

True

It makes the intercooler less prone to heat soak on hot days. Made a big difference on my stock side mount just by blocking the air from the rest of the engine.

I wouldn't worry about water traveling up the pipe like that. If the filter takes in water, it will probably just drain out even if it is sucking air at the same time.

This is definately what I am going to do when I get a FMIC. So that is a standard CAI from an Accord and it fits without modification?

I build a lot of draw through style turbos for motorcycle applications. A draw through design has the carb before the inlet of the turbo and "draws through" the air/fuel mixture through the compressor. I've never seen a damaged compressor blade from a mist of liquid.

Great intake Tallen

I forgot about those. Good point. Turbos have been run this way for over 50 years now.

It sounds.......Exactly the same! :)

Water injection will come next. Gotta love low budget projects.

Thanks for the comments and the laugh from incorrect "you'll bend your wookie" info.:thumb:
