For those of you who have an FP Big28 or similar T25-based turbo, you may have noticed that running more than 18 PSI at high RPM is a little difficult due to wastegate flap blowopen.

Forced Performance is introducing a new product to help fix this - an upgraded wastegate actuator with a 17 lb spring instead of an 11 lb spring.

It's a direct replacement for the wategate actuator on a Big28, T28/28, or T25, and it only costs $125.

I'm getting one to review, and it should be in my hands sometime next week.

More details to follow here and on http://farnorthracing.com/wastegate_actuator.html as they arrive.

"Forced Performance now offers an upgraded wastegate actuator that has a 17lb spring. With this actuator, it should be possible to hold 24 psi all the way through the rev range on a Big28 or a T25."

Are they saying that with an upgraded spring the t25 can hold more boost until redline?!

This actuator is actually manufactured by FP to be a direct bolt-on replacement for the factory actuator - with two extra features. They aren't like anything anyone has even seen before because we just made them!

1. Higher spring pressure to prevent flapper blow open.

2. Adjustable rod end to allow some flexibility in boost setting.

Other than these two points, its exactly like the factory actuator. It's the same shape, size, color, and the nipple is in the exact same place. It looks completely factory.

They are so new we haven't even had a chance to run them on our own shop cars yet!

Definitley keep us posted on this Robert. I for one am very interested in this product. Thanks for the info!!

Page now updated with a picture of the actuator.

Pretty....

Anybody checked out DG's new dyno numbers with the new FP 17lb. wastegate actuator upgrade yet? If I'm reading his dyno chart correctly he made 348whp, and 376lb. ft of torque at the wheels with the FP Big28.:thumb:

I think he mentioned something about a intermitten mis-fire problem he had, from either bad plug wires or bad plugs, or possibly both that caused his chart to look a little jumpy. But damn... 348whp translates to over 400hp at the crank, and I think if I'm not mistaken that's without cams, which is awesome IMO from that size of turbo.

Damn, that's pretty hardcore.

I always knew the "320 hp" estimate that DG used to have on his car page seemed very suspiciously low...

Didn't everyone say that "Big" T28's were only good to 350 ish Crank horsepower? And he's still on a stock 7 bolt bottom end with a stock head/cams/ mostly stock intake manifold!

Makes me second think the idea that I will need to be upgrading my AGP clone at some point..

I know what you mean. I was thinking very seriously about selling my FP Big28 and getting the new FP 2544 or the FP green, but after seeing DG's numbers, which are down right insane, I'm going to go with some HKS 264/272 cams, Act 2100 clutch, BM LSD, and a light weight flywheel to see how much I can muster out of mine. I thought the turbo was rated at 350 to 360 hp as well. I guess DG proved that wrong. Hell... I would be happy just to make around 380 crank HP.

Does anyone know if this wastegate actuator upgrade would make a difference on my T28/28 going 18 psi on the streets? Also, Can you run 21-23 psi on the streets safely running on 92 pump? (w/ 255 lph fuel pump, 550 cc's, AFC)

Last question...anyone know whether BG got his #s on pump or race gas?

I know this is an old thread but better than starting a zillion new ones. I just got mine yesterday but mine still drops off boost. I adjusted it to get it close to the flapper arm and then had to pull the actuator rod out just a tad to get it over the flapper arm. Not sure how the adjustment is suppose to be made concerning boost settings. Not sure if it's the actuator or maybe the flapper isn't closing all the way but can't see it being that so I dunno. Adjustment is the only thing I could think of being an issue at the moment.

Oh yeah, and maybe this is the issue but I took off my manual boost controller and ran the line straight from the turbo to the actuator. Figured that since it was a 17 psi actuator, I wouldn't need the controller right now anyway. Maybe I need to throw it back on. Hmmm....
