Louisville,
I was looking into purchasing some Crower rods for my TSi and I was wondering what a good piston combination would be. I've heard good things from JE, Ross, and Wiseco but I wanted to ask the opinions of the DSMtuners people before I committed to one of them. Internally speaking, my motor is stock. After I make this piston/rod choice, how much boost would I be able to run on race gas? I'd think 19psi would be the limit or so on 93 octane pump gas. The turbo I will be running is an FP Green model. Any information, comments, etc greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I run 23psi on 93 octane gas on a completly stock motor with a 50trim (Green equivelant from Turbonetics) turbo, pistons and rods are definately not needed for that.

You will have no problem running exactly the same as I do. Our motors can take a lot of abuse and 19psi is not a problem. When you eclipse the 400whp mark then you may think about building your motor but if your goal is only 19psi on a Green then your wasting your time and money because it certinaly is not needed. As high as 26psi has been run by a few people on stock motors with nothing more than race gas. At that point head gaskets may become an issue, but thats nothing a mitsu metal head gasket and ARP head studs wont cure.

If you put pistons and rods in your motor then running 23-35psi daily should no be a problem as long as your tuned right for it and 30+ on racegas should not be a problem.

Crower rods can probably take more hp than you will ever dream of making. Stock 6 bolt short block has gone 131mph on 2 diff. occasions. That's about 530whp. Granted the cars weren't street cars, but still. 131mph is flying on stock rods.

I've run 26psi on my Green and pump gas with no problems. However, 30psi and race gas with less then perfect tuning cost me a head gasket ;) I honestly don't think an FP Green will break a stock 6 bolt, unless you really screw up the tuning. Just doesn't make enough power.

Oh my goal is definitely not just 19psi, at the track I'd definitely like to see my boost levels around the 30psi range. However my boost gauge only goes up to 30 so I might have to get a new one for anything higher. Haha. Thanks for the information though, helps me out a lot.
