oil pressure sensor

Just the gauge. Oil pressure's determined by the speed of the oil pump (integrally driven by the engine- if the motor's turning, it's pumping oil), the viscosity of the oil, the pressure relief valve, and bearing clearances. You're fine to run without a gauge, you still have the idiot light. And so far as that goes, once a DSM gets low on oil pressure, the lifters make such a racket it'll make you stop to clear the bum and his bag of aluminum cans out from under the chassis anyway.
