I will be installing a new turbo within the next couple of weeks and would like to hear thoughts on break-in recomendations to keep the turbo safe. After it's in, and before the first start-up what should I do to make sure it will not be strained? Any break-in advice as far as what psi to run and how many miles until I can really do some testing? Any comments from those who have done a swap or know about it would be great. I was thinking this thread would help out a lot of us thinking about a new turbo.

Thanks

There really is no "break in" period. Just make sure after first installing the turbo to unplug (I think its the crank angle sensor) on a 2g its by the right hand side of the intake manifold. Make sure you turn the car over for about 10 secs then stop. Do this about 3 or 4 times so as to get oil in the turbo. After that, just make sure you are Turbo Timing your car. If you don't have one, then you'll just have to wait ...depending on how hard you ran the car, up to about 3 minutes. From what I can tell, if I let the Turbo Timer do the calculation for me, its usually around 1.5-2 minutes max.

On a side note, don't go boosting crazy amounts of boost if you don't have the supporting mod's to do so. Even so, I would never run more than 21lbs of boost on any turbo unless I was using Race gas.

All of the supporting mods are there, I just want to be sure of what's going on so I don't unintentionally screw something up.

I'm In a same boat now too.. Got my Garret T04 turbo (with mitsu exh. housing). Will be putting it in this weekends (as soon as gaskets arrive that is)

Good luck and lemme knwo how it went....Peace..

Thanks, good luck to you too :) I don't have the turbo yet so I might be a little later than you but make sure to update!
