gonna buy a parts car and pull the motor and rebuild it. i have average rebuild skills, but i wonder, i am used ot small block chevies. any idea if there will be any areas of the 4g63 that will cause me problems?
my plans for the bottom end are a knife edged crank, forged rods and forged pistons with a 9 flat comp ratio.
any idea on which brand i should use? the crank will be burschur.
should i port the heads or should i get the extrude hone? and if extrude hone, should i get a venom or burschur or extreme racing intake, or should i just extrude hone mine? gotta lot of quesitons when i start this project. its gonna be for a street car, then i will build the one in the car now for the other car (parts car) and go for broke on it, since it will be all race anyway.

depends what in all your looking to get out of it but Crower Rods and Ross Pistons are the best for power potential for forged internals so Ive been told..

as for the head..a 1st gen head is already very large, port size that is and it can be ported out to be larger but I would have it done by a knowledgeable DSM place cuz just opening it up isnt going to make a world of difference, you really have to know the flow characterisitcs of the head..

If you have only 'average' rebuild skills and are used to working on small-block Chevy's, I'd think twice before jumping into a rebuild by yourself. Way too many people have this attitude and end up blowing their freshly rebuilt motor within days or weeks of putting it in. DSM's have tight tolerances and many little things that need to be done during a rebuild to ensure proper rebuild. I'd get someone who has rebult the 4g63 before to help you or take it to the pros.....
