Hey all,

My Talon has about 175K on the stock bottom end, and I've recently started to think about a rebuild. This is not going to happen for a few months, as I have a lot of homework to do, but I thought I would start spec'ing this stuff out now. My goals are as follows: I would like to build a motor that makes no more than 400HP to the crank. I don't think I will be upgrading towards anything beyond a 20G. I would like to build this motor to be as reliable as possible. Longevity is key. I have already researched shops, and the shop I have picked has an incredible amount of testimonials and about 30 years of experience. They will be doing a minor port and polish on the head, and the block will be bored .020 over, balanced and blueprinted. Here are the parts that I have chosen so far. Please remember that price is a factor here. Right now I'm at about $1300 in parts alone. I don't really want to spend more than that, but a few extra bucks towards a better motor is well worth it.

Mach V Top Line Engine Rebuild Kit - .020 over

ARP Head Studs

ARP Main Studs

Mach V MBCAD Kit - (Just in case. I'm working with a 7-bolt.)

ACT 2600 Clutch - (While I'm in there)

New Oil Pan (Old one was dented by previous owner)

New Valve Cover (Old one has a JBWelded crack)

Any input at all would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt.

Looks like a nice setup you got here.

I would strongly suggest going with a 6bolt setup

i recently had to go through the same
i went with the .020 over 2g piston, 1g shotpeened rods setup, hopefully it will work out great, SHould easily support 450 hp and in street/stock form. I personally did alot of research on magnusmotorsports.com i strongly suggest looking there if your in the route of a 6 bolt

Thanks for the reply. Good information here. Just out of curiosity, what kind of compression ratio do you get with the 1G rods and 2G piston combo? Are the 1G rods shorter than the 2G? I know that the 1G rods are a lot beefier, so I will probably go with those while I'm doing this. I'm not sure about the 6 bolt yet. I think it might be a good idea to do it, and would net me an extra motor, but I'm not sure if I have enough cash to buy that as well. I'll keep an eye out for one. If I find a block and head in good enough condition, I think it might warrant me spending the extra cash.

By the way, has anyone had any experience with the Top Line rebuild kit? Any input would be great.

Thanks,
Matt.

Say it with me: Do Not Rebuild A Seven Bolt Motor.
I have read way too many threads and heard too many stories about 7 bolt rebuilds crankwalking, let alone OE 7 bolts talking the walk of shame. Surprised no one said this earlier. Go with everything you planned on, just do it with a 6 bolt bottom end.
