I have Weisco pistons that i am putting on 1G "BIG" rods to install in my 97 GS-T. I just sent them to the machine shop. I was talking with my mechanic and the problem arose about whether or not the rod journals are the same size. What needs to be done to make my 1G rod conversion work? Do I have to machine the crank? Do they use 1G or 2G rod bearings? If you have any information that can help me please let me know.

Side question: Are all 1G rods the same? What years are alike and which ones are different?
 
Sorry if my question :"Are the rod journals are the same size" is unclear. What I mean is, do the 1G and 2G cranks have the same size journals. If not, how do I make my 1G rods work with my 2G crank?
 
If the pistons were made for a 7 bolt engine, then the 1G rods need to be machined on the small end for the different size pin.

The crank journal should be the same if I'm not mistaken.

Journal size on the crank is the same. However the Wiseco pistons are a free float pin. The stock pistons are a pressed pin. I guess if the the shop can size the rod end that mates to the piston for the free float all is good. I can't recall wiseco having a pressed pin to the rods. Hope that clears things up.
 
My mechanic says the 1G and 2G crank journals have a .012 or .0012 thousanths difference. Would this make a difference?
 
Have any of you actually done this? Do you know someone I can ask that would know for sure?
