im hearing a few different stories of both good and bad on a stutterbox type of launch..(building boost by misfiring in neutral)..tmo stage 3 has this feature and i was wondering will this kill my turbo?..i need to understand and know as much as i can from you guys about the effects of something along the lines as this..i hear people saying it wont do anything and then i have people telling me itll kill your turbo so buy a new one now..i just need some straight up facts please..thanks alot

True it does generate heat. But if you only use it when you are racing (and not too often LOL) you should be fine. Just let things cool off thoroughly

I have an MSD DIS2 and i use the two step feature at the track all the time. Its only engaged for maybe 3 seconds before you launch cause the tree only takes 1.5 second to drop on a sportsman (.5 per light) and I start it a little before that so it's not really engaged long enough to make any heat

Then you rip down the track at WOT so any effect of heat is quickly gone by you ripping down the track because that makes so much more heat then 3 seconds of the two step does that you don't really need to worry about it. The trip back down the retun lane is long enough to cool the turbo.

On the street I use the two step when street racing, and same thing, one you stop or drive back to where everybody is or to where your going etc it's effects are long gone. My EGT's never really pass 1100deg when the two step is on and I have held it for 10 or more seconds a few times when testing it.

Basically what I am saying is the effects are negligable on your turbo and if you just use it when you want to launch fast and are reasonable with it then it will not affect the life of your turbo at all. Dont be a moron in a parking lot and show off to your friends and hit it 15 times to make your BOV go off then shut off your car, that will do something likely.

Yeah from mid 1.9's to mid 1.7's consistantly plus I come out of the bucket with a lot more power because of the boost building. I can spin the tires through most of 1st gear.

The cool thing about the two step is you can decide how hard you come out with it. You don't have to floor the gas either. I tried lauching with the gas 3/4 so it was on the rev-limiter but not building boost and to the floor so it was boosting on the rev-limiter. I found most of the time with boost the car woulnd't hook up just spin the tires. I generally got faster 60ft times by using part throttle with the two step and just as I let the two step button off I hit the gas 100% at the same to during launch.

I run the two-step from a button on my steering wheel no my clutch, I just prefer it that way.

Wow that sounds really helpful. I didnt know you can turn it on and off whenever you want. With the TMO chip isnt it always on though?? Just curious because I have FWD and a stutterbox is something new to me.

thanks alot for the info..im pretty sure there will be the occasional blow off to show off but not more than 2-3 seconds and my car is always timed 3 minutes anyways and more in the summer..itll be a daily driver sorta, and a track car sorta..itll be my "fun" car basicaly on the street..ill be running tmo stage 3 though apposed to dis-2..i know there is a more refined rpm selection on the dis2 for the stutterbox than the tmo but theres so much more tmo can do..any more output?..that was great..:thumb:

The TMO requires an activation switch as well. The TMO instructions tell you to just use your clutch switch, but you can use any switch you want. The MSD stutter is better however, because it cuts spark, not fuel like the TMO. The car is prone to knock when launching off a fuel limiter device. Just my experience.

The thing about the DIS2 is it cuts spark, one cyl per rotation, which allows unburnt fuel to hit the exhaust manifold where it ignites and spool the turbo. I don't know if you'll get the same or as much spooling effect with one that cuts fuel.

I also chose not to put it on my clutch as I prefer the control on my finger so I can use it when I feel like it. Some days I just feel like lauching at 7000rpm in the rain to spin then all through first to scare Corvette drivers. I also like to not use the two step at the track when I'm bracket racing. It depends on how much faster or slower the other car is I may or may not use the two step. Espically not if I'm sandbagging and am dialed in at mid 14's LOL...

Here is how I hooked mine up. I put a button on a metal strap and bent it around my wheel. I hooked up a quick release electrical connection to the curly cord which can be disconnected and tucked under the steering column for daily driving and pulled out quickly if I'm at a light and need it ;) A bit ghetto yes, but I do things my own way and never buy something I can make.

You sure the TMO cuts fuel? That's no way to make a stutterbox, especially when the ECU has equally easy access to the ignition control...

And no, a stutterbox isn't bad for the turbo any more than going to WOT is. It's only harder on the drivetrain from launching that much harder.

Well it could be harder on the turbo because raw fuel is being ignited inside the exhaust manfold to spool the turbo when the car isn't really under load. It creates a lot of heat in an already harsh environment.

Will it do any damage? Not likely in 3-4 seconds of waiting for the lights to drop, held for 30 seconds, yeah thats gonna be a problem...

i agree to..i think ill do the same or close to the same setup on the wheel for the trigger for the clutch wire as long as the stage 3 can be turned off and on as a msd can be..it would only be for 3-4 seconds at a time when i do use the launch control..i have a 2600 right now where its starting to slip and i was debating on going with a 2900 this time with a built drivetrain, more than stock anyways with a 4 bolt, taboo fork, and probaly a rebuilt tranny although its a bmrace tranny already..any suggestions on a beefy drivetrain?..ill def be slipping the clutch and not dumping it,which in turn will take a toll on my clutch so would a 2900 be more favorable in the long run than the ever-so-famous 2600?..thanks alot for helping me out..
