that's where you want to put one. That way you are eliminating the biggest restiction in your exhaust. Most poeple put them in after the cat becuase they think that hte muffler is the most restictive part of the exhaust. What you should do is take out your cat and put in the cutout there. That's how i have mine and it works great.
The cutout housing and motor assembly is kinda large so I put mine in after the high-flow cat.Originally posted by 98eclipseRS
you might not be able to fit it there. That was where i wanted to put mine originally(original exhaust idea was to leave all stock except for 3" dp and put electric cutout on the dp beofre flex section) But the bend isnt that long and the cutouts are usually quite long so getting it to fit would require some cutting of the cutout and xhaust pipe. Wouldn't be worth it unless you got a good hookup at an exhuast shop.
Don't worry about where you put it, you won't pass inspection with a cutout on the car.Originally posted by Travis_GST
well i dont wanna take out the cat completely...i still need to pass inspection when the time comes. Is there a way to put it before the cat, but keep the cat?

how are they going to know if you have it closed?
second of all keep the cut out in place of the cat, just weld some brakets to put it in place of it, when it's time to pass emissions just switch them up.

TRC §547.604.
MUFFLER REQUIRED.
(a) A motor vehicle shall be equipped with a muffler in good working condition that continually operates to prevent excessive or unusual noise.
(b) A person may not use a muffler cutout, bypass, or similar device on a motor vehicle.

That's your Texas law there, podner.Originally posted by Travis_GST
Maybe in cali, but they dont even look under the car here in TX. Just stick the sensor on the exhaust pipe and thats it.
